Description Among the various pieces of gadgets and equipment aboard your average whirly you will often find a simple kite. Made from lightweight wood, durable colorful paper and packed with plenty of string, pilots , particularly in the early days of copter aviation, would pack these along with them in case their copters went down in some out-of-the-way place. The kite, flown high above, would act as a signal to assist in any rescue effort.

So, to say "go fly a kite" would be to hope one fails. Interesting. Nice work.

Haha, yes I suppose that could have a very specific meaning for a pilot in the nineteen-teens.

Looks great, but it really needs something... The background should be more detalic, there should be water shading or something.

Yeah, I can see why you might think so. I was really trying to keep everything very flat in the background. In the first pencil sketches I did I had wave like shading throughout the water, but cut it out and when for the smooth and reflective option instead.

This is great. Simple, flat color zones really highlight the linework of the craft and pilot. I'd take a bullet for minimal palettes, too.

Stylistically kind of reminds me of the OG Howard and Nester comics from the earliest issues of Nintendo Power, the artist of which I was never able to find out but definitely love (ex: [link] ).

Thank you so much. I wasn't familiar with Howard and Nester comics, they are very cool. I'll definitely have to hunt for some more of those.
