legend says that soul mates are connected by a red string tied to their ankles.

i don't believe it.

once, i reached down and curled my fingers around that red, red string. once, i picked up the thread, and i followed it to its end.

there was nothing, only a skeleton, with the string caught in its fingers.

to grasp your hand
with my broken fingers.

my bones remain to this day
but my heart is long gone,
much like yours.

do remind me,
of days before heartache,
of moments the split second before
our bones turned to ash,
our flesh to dust,
our dreams to ruins.

there are skyscrapers, you see,
they tumble down when i reach for you
and our fingers connect.
the ruins and destruction that we left in our wake
should have been enough to
make us realize that
legend,
is not true.

a million days is not enough
to make up for what is lost.

legend says i can find my soulmate,
but common sense decreed that
i cannot love just bare bones.
