At first glance, Luka appears meek, and unassuming. She is a pretty little thing, certainly not formidable or threatening in any regard. They say magic was a story meant for pups, so that was what they fed their first litter. At the time, it seemed harmless. When encouragement was needed, they wove tales of Man and Wolf, and how the former worshiped the later. For if their ancestors became Gods, then they could become anything they set their minds to be. When fear and obedience was needed, they warned them about Magellan and the vengeful spirits of the Keres Oak. For if they saw only what they could take and spat venom at their fellow wolf, the island would rid them of eyes and tongue.

What would come next should not have been a surprise, but surprised they most certainly were. As their beloved son and daughter grew, their affinity for mysticism began to take shape. They were dismayed. The stories they spun were just that-- stories. The only truth those ancient tomes held were the lessons they instilled. But to Malaysia and her ilk, those old narratives were gospel. That was concerning.

But gone were the days where mother and father could lead their progeny down better paths. The son and daughter were wolves full grown and their destinies were their own to shape. So the parents watched from afar, powerless as Malaysia ensnared their beloved children in her web of lies.

Daughter returned to them, freed by love. She started her own family, beyond the influence of the red wolf, and the soon-to-be grandparents were overjoyed. But they feared for their wayward son who still lingered in the shadows, starved of light and love. Their daughter feared for him too, they sensed, for she never seemed happy as the distance between them grew. Malaysia's poison had infected their family.

They soon lost everything. The pack split, and in the aftermath, death was victorious. Their children were nowhere to be found, gone with Malaysia and her Kol. Only the grandson remained, but they could not bear to look at him. He was a reminder of the litter they lost, of a family broken.

So they abandoned the ruins and left to start anew. Their second litter would not be weaned off myths and legends like the first. And so they welcomed a single daughter into the world. They named her Luka: a light in the darkness. They vowed to shield her from the wickedness that lay in the North, but wickedness found the family anyway.

The peacekeeper, Amberly, found them one morning, blood staining the grass, their lips bright crimson. But their child remained unharmed. Amberly's first instinct was to give her to Haroeris, her nephew by blood, but the he-wolf refused. He could not raise a child.

But there was someone who could.

Together, they buried the bodies and told the pack that the family had perished, claimed by the mysterious sickness. That night, Amberly smuggled the child beyond the borders to her siblings in the North. She hoped the Kol would see the gesture as an act of good faith, the first steps in righting a terrible wrong.

But little did she know, the young wolflet's life in Kol would not go as well as she hoped. Her older brother was viciously jealous of his sister's new charge, viewing her as just another burden for Pekhat to focus her attention on--attention she could be giving him. Though he was not outwardly cruel to her, Luka and her older brother had a complicatedly tense relationship. And as she grew older, she took an interest in their sister's trade, a choice that put her in direct competition with Sutekh for Pekhat's affection. Her brother was patient as he was clever, and waited for the ideal moment to strike. The opportunity presented itself at last, and under the guise of taking her fishing, Sutekh attempted to drown Luka in the Magellan.

She would have died had it not been for the mysterious connection she shared with Mythos, a Taika whom with she shared dreams. Sensing that his soulbond was in danger, Mythos ran to her rescue, pulling her from the river, and ultimately saving her life. But Luka has not been the same since her brother's attempt on her life. His face still haunts her, and she cannot speak a word about what happened--not even to Mythos in dreams.
