I think I could imagine this could be one of Alice's dreams or rather nightmares during when she was in Houndsitch (as if the dream/nightmare is foreshadowing things) but she shrugged the suspicions until it was too late (i.e. the events of A:MR)

Which this might be the origins of the Dollmaker and the Dollhouse domain (well the underworld actually) possibly which were products that the nightmares she's having (along with reliving the night of the fire again....which only this time it now usually ends with Bumby/Dollmaker saying "Come now Alice it's just a Dream...." or rather the forgetting process affecting her dreams/nightmares).
