I can't remember what book it's from, but I vaguely remember something similar happening where a guy convinces a magic flaming tree it shouldn't exist by using logic. Similarly in "A Flight Of Dragons" where the protagonist uses science to defeat an evil wizard.

its a reduction spell by the looks of it.

nasty

I did not see that coming. Now it's up to Raccoon Medusa to save the day...by stabbing her. Oh the irony. I wonder if they can be turned big again. and if they can, how is it done? Is it something impossible like, reciting pi backwards, an impossible task!

I don't think that spell works on Racoon or Racoon. Can't be sure until I see him.

She knows a little more of that spell than I do... about three decimal places ... but how long can she keep it up?

Welll, that was a non-hostile take back ... so far. It looks like it's up to Raccoon, no the other Raccoon, I mean Medusa to hold on to the ship. XD

Huh?  Announcing the digits of PI somehow is a spell in Yeld?  That really is strange.

Maths are the true language of the universe. It's not that surprising.

Well, mathematics are certainly universal.  I'm reminded of a couple of short stories from sci-fi books.

In one, a human space explorer meets an alien space explorer (who vaguely resembles an ostrich) and discovers that once they try to go beyond mathematics, he can't understand the alien's language since it keeps on changing what words it uses for the same thing and seems amused by the concept of the same word being used for the same thing twice in a row.  They manage to communicate on a basic level only because the alien is capable of grasping the concept of the same word meaning the same thing always.

In the other, humans are exploring an Earth-like planet which used to be populated but the population have been wiped out, leaving behind all of their books and writings.  Humans can't translate them because even children's picture books are ambiguous (does the word refer to the object's name, its shape, its colour or what?) and although humans have figured out what symbols are used in mathematics, and what digits they represent, that's about as far as they've got.

Then, they discover a university.  One room is circular and around the walls are inscribed symbols with names and numbers below them.  There are about ... 97 of them?  Something like that.  For a while, they can't figure it out, then a chemist sees the symbols and realises...

The name of the short story was "Omnilingual."

Yep it's been said that if Deity exists, she's one hell of a mathematician!
