Picking and choosing the good parts in order to update your world view is a good thing. But one doesn't need to take up the brand, that drags the rest along with it. I mean if one would learn that stealing is bad by reading a holy book, that's good. He doesn't need to become a follower of that religion in order to do so. But identifying with religious, political and social ideology groups seems to be a huge temptation for a lot of people.
