Description Commander of Mighty Orbots, AKA Rob Simmons. He is a character from the animated show, Mighty Orbots, which was a short lived series that showed on Saturday mornings for only one season for only 13 episodes. But, wow, it was fun while it lasted.

The helmet is a hybrid of what I saw in the series. It was rather frustrating that each episode had it ever so slightly different, especially when it came to the side hinges.

Can anyone guess what episode this was inspired by?

The only thing I recalled about this show was the name and after seeing this I looked it up on youtube and it all flooded back to me once I saw the Orbots themselves. I hope this is on DVD.Β

It sucks when shows like this only run a single season. The same thing happened to the Inhumanoids.Β

Really great work You really captured the style of the series.

Thank you! Yeah, seemed like the really good ones didn't get the run they deserved. If you find an official release on DVD, then please let me know! The only one that I know of happened in Japan.

No problem

Well in the case of the Inhumanoids they were screwed from the start. Parent's groups were up in arms about it being a horror based cartoon and said it was too scary for kids. The toy line tanked because Hasbro didn't really make them well and most of them looked stiff and crappy. The comic book published by Marvel was put in their STAR imprint which was marketed to very young kids and it lasted four issues before they cancelled it. They didn't even finish the story line started in issue one.Β

If I find it on DVD I will let you know. I went through the same thing with Inhumanoids and M.A.S.K. at first. It took them forever to get a M.A.S.K. DVD release in the US. I had to get the Australian one for M.A.S.K. and the Inhumanoids I got the UK DVD set.Β

You could still play the Mighty Orbots Japanese DVD set if you get a program called AnyDVD from Slysoft. It makes your PC a universal DVD player. I got it and it works really well.

I'd never heard of it until a random pic on FB, but I've watched several episodes now. Β I laugh that Dia cannot figure out the M.O Commander is the same guy, simply b/c 1 has a helmet and the other, glasses. Β It's Superman syndrome!!

Oh yes, she definitely has the Superman syndrome! I still love this 13-episode series. It not only influenced my art, but also my writing. The Zerralon series I'm currently writing was inspired by this cartoon.

Thanks for the comment!

Wow! I am loving your artwork, Very cool. Escecially your Gatchaman fan art. The guy that made that CGI Turtles movie is directing the new Gatchaman CGI film. Any thoughts? And this Mighty Orkbots??? I'm not familiar with it. Maybe it didn't play in the UK.

I love how you've used cool colors as negative space. It really makes the face pop!

Thank you for the comment! Yes, I'm trying to get better with playing the cooler and warmer colors off each other. It can make for dramatic results.

Very nice. (has favored it).

I can't tell which episode was the inspiration. How about a hint?

Whoof! This is excellent! I envy your ability with the geometric shapes and helmet (both weaknesses of mine). It looks like it belongs in the episode.

Well done!

I missed this show, but I like how you did the character, he looks very good.

And you're another Manga Studio user! Cool! I don't yet do my lineart in MS, but it looks like maybe I should.

At first I tried to ink this in Photoshop. I really should know better than that.

So, Manga Studio was brought out. Wow, what a big difference. Sometime I should post something to show the difference in quality. It's dramatic.

One thing that automatically popped into my head was that Charles Schultz should have used it in the later years as his hands started shaking so much.

Paint Shop Pro does decent vector lines, although it doesn't have the capability to simulate a brush or pen like Manga Studio. I definitely have to give it a try. Which version are you using? The new Vista-friendly v4 is finally out. I'm seriously tempted to upgrade simply for the color support.

Manga Studio 3 EX. They came out with the Mac version AFTER their sale ended when the new version debuted for PC only. Creeps. I would have upgraded, too. I'm really interested in the the possibilities of the color support. 3 EX can do color, but each color is on a different layer. It's too cumbersome and annoying to use as it is now. But, from the documentation on the new version, it sounds like they've improved it.
