You have an extraordinary mind, for which I am truly grateful....as well as for the profoundly moving lesson in history....I had seen a film that featured his work, but never knew of the aftermath.

Death to all "true" believers.
*Keels over*
I wonder who would win the fight, the pro tech true believers or the Luddite true believers?
Wonder how many normal people could pass the Turing test?
Great job with this.

Alan Turing, brilliant scientist and inventor of modern computing, breaker of the Nazi Enigma code, who thus saved countless lives in WWII, came up with the idea of the Turing Test, for when machine intelligence will be able to fool people that it is a conscious human being (a prize is given every year for the best attempt to pass the Turing Test), who was honored as a great hero by England, then cruelly persecuted for being a homosexual, humiliated, chemically castrated and hounded out of academia, and finally committed suicide with a cyanide-laced apple.
The piece is a comment on the contempt for human values that so often shows in the true believers in cybernetic totalism, transhumanism, radical darwinism and the cyborg-asmic rapture of the coming Singularity.

Wow, what a piece of history. Such a shame it was never taught in history class...
