Description "Epic...."

It's the Merker! Steam Powered Giraffe's one-man band. Michael plays just about every instrument under the sun, sings and writes songs both on his own and with the band. He may not be in makeup, but he has a ton of character and we love him for it.

As for this painting, I wanted him to look like he was leading the charge so I gave him a period-style AK47 and a steel-jawed grimace. No one messes with the Walter automatons and gets away with it! NO ONE!

lol thanks i had a lot of fun with this series. I plan to make Matt Smith an entry at some point.

This pic with grimace and fire is still the only picture of Michael Reed I've managed to make and still be happy with. /trivia

I will if you think he'll like it. I did tag him on tumblr, do you think he'll see it there?

Possibly? I haven't been in the spg tag in a long time, but if any of the others see it (they go through the tags sometimes) I think he'll end up seeing it.

It's a speculative series. I'm playing with the idea that the current band is suddenly thrust back into war either through a resurgence of Copper Elephants by brand new Beciles or something like time travel or portals or whatever. I know the bot's downloaded a patch to disable their guns, so maybe that's part of the AU as well... what I really wanted to do was rip the Spine's sleeve off. The rest evolved from there.

True... I kinda remember your Halo series. This was bound to happends.

(You risks however to get a lot of attention of folks wanting a peek at the largest bots.)

Nice!
Almost reminds me of a character (who's name has escaped me) off of Ghost in the Shell. Bou something.
Anyway, great job!

It's a good movie in my opinion.
Anyway, great work on the pic I have two questions:
1) how long have you been doing art?
2) did you take classes or teach yourself?

I've been drawing as long as I can remember, although my crayon pictures as a 3 year old were as thrilling as you'd probably expect. I didn't go to art school, I always took art classes throughout my highschool and college career just because those were fun to me, but I actually graduated as a computer animator - which required very little drawing credit, at least at my univesrsity. I really dislike the technical and building portions of CG, which limits my marketability in that field because I'm not very good at them.

For a simple this or that answer though, I'd say I was self-taught in art. Most the tips and tricks I use today I learned either on the job or by observing and experimenting.
