The image on the left was done as fan art when Fistful of Blood was first published in Heavy Metal Magazine back around 2001. Kevin Eastman, the writer and then Editor of the magazine, liked it enough to publish it in Heavy Metal. Earlier this year a private Collector commissioned the painting on the right and I sent it to Kevin just because I thought he'd like to see it. As it turned out, he and IDW were working on reissuing the comic as a 4 issue mini series and asked if he could use my artwork for the covers of 2, 3 and 4. I couldn't be happier to have been involved with this project, it was fun all the way.Both are painted in Oils on Board, 20" x 16"

James, I have always admired your style and skills. However, as the user above mentioned, in the left-hand side picture, I think the lady is very disproportionate. As busty chicks are nothing unheard-of, it seems like her whole upper-half is far too big for her extremely skinny lower-half, just when you compare shoulders and the head (let alone the boobs) with the hips and the waist. As you are an highly experienced professional, I don't think this is an error, but intended and wanted by the client. Am I right?

Yes, it's deliberately that way. The story was originally drawn by Simon Bisley and he depicted the character with very exaggerated proportions. I copied those proportions for the most part.

What I find interestingΒ is the evolution of your art between these two pictures.Β They're both gorgeous pieces, but the proportions on the main character between first and second iteration have become less stylized and more realistic. (Hip to bust ratio particularly)Β The right hand picture is really well laid out.

Yeah, I was quite conscious of the difference while I was working on the second one. It's funny, I've done another one since and I think it sits somewhere in between these two in terms of style
