“Y’know this isn’t what I had in mind when you said we should ch--”“I’ll stop you right there Knuckles.”
Kind of an odd idea I had in my head after beating the game (and yes I still stand by the fact it's actually pretty good). So yeah, here's my answer to the age old question of what you get when mixing Fire & Ice.

I'm still no fan of Boom in any of its forms, but hey if they made a good or at least decent game for the series, then good for them. Me on the other hand I'll wait for Mania.
This picture is pretty good though. Its like I can hear Roger Craig Smith speak from it...breath at the end of his sentences and all!

When you mix Fire & Ice together, you get Steam, which has better Sonic games up on offer, many of them with fairly cheap prices. ^^

I've noticed that Fire and Ice had gotten better review scores than the previous Sonic Boom games. I may have to check this one out. ^^

No it is a terrible game! We need more serious and awesome and action-packed Sonic with a more high-stakes plot and cooler and more serious enemies!
This Sonic is just painful to see. Where do I even begin.
The whole opening is just dumb. Like Amy and Sonic gain fire and ice powers, but at first act like they have had them for a while, (oh and they give no explanation, they just do it out of the blue). Also an Ice Chunk is about to fall on Amy, then Sonic melts it, then Amy freezes it again just to split it. Like what the hell? Then after that, they act like they just gained these powers out of the blue, when they were previously just acting like they've had them for a while.
I'd like to quote something from TheMysteriousMrEnter's animated atrocities reviews to back myself up.
From TheMysteriousMrEnter's review on Powerpuff Girls 2016: Painbow.
"You see, in a competent show, we'd at least get some type of clue to a reason early on for these sorts of happenings. And the answer would be revealed at the end. But we need some type of valid clues or reasons! YOU CAN'T JUST HAVE THIS KIND OF STUFF JUST HAPPEN OUT OF NOWHERE BECAUSE.... PLOT!"
Now the stages, they look more like something out of Donkey Kong Country than Sonic. Heck, I think this game is trying to be like Tropical Freeze. And there's this Psychic-looking Robot who goes around ruining things. Every boss battle has him constructing some sort of big monster thing out of debris he finds around, and fighting them with it.
Oh, and there's only 4 bosses, but like 7 Worlds. A severe lack of Boss Fights too, not every world has a boss in it?
And listen to this crap! The 2nd boss (which is like a Tar Beast created by the said robot, made of Tar, parts of an old ruins statue, and two T-Rex skulls for claws), in its second phase, it attacks you by PULLING OUT A GIANT STRAW AND BLOWING BUBBLES IN THE TAR. ARE YOU F**KING KIDDING ME?!?!
We later see how Eggman has a part in this. Apparently Eggman found this ore at a place called "Ragna Rock" (a pun on Ragnarok), and is using it as some sort of fuel for his new robots. The said smaller robot is basically a mining cohort who is supposed to be able to magnetically (or something like that) attract the ore. The robot fails to live up to expectations and Eggman renames it D-FEKT (a pun on Defect). However, it can attract other objects like some form of telekinesis, and now it sets out to impress Eggman in any way it can.
So basically it's all about the new robot being a big show-off? Even Rise of Lyric had more tension than that!
Yes, it's painful for me to see this, but at the same time, with how things have been lately, I'm not that surprised.

well if you like them then that's fine, personally I do too even if I think their writing nowadays comes off as sloppy and pretentious, and that certain gameplay styles/stages are much harder to swallow nowadays.
In any case, sorry I brought it up cuz when you mentioned "high-stakes plot and cooler, more serious enemies!" it just makes me think to what the Adventure games tried to do. Point is I think it's unfair to compare the Fire & Ice to games like that cuz it's clearly meant to be a side-project that's going more for a light-hearted approach. I'll whole-heartedly agree that bits of the plot made little sense at all but, on the gameplay side of things I found it enjoyable enough to give it a mild recommendation.

To be honest...I don't think 2D in a 3D environment goes well in a Sonic game. I'd rather wait for Mania or Project 2017.
