Jamie, this is awesome. I love the subtle color shifts, especially in the skin tones. Its funny though, the thing that really stands on is the tomb stone. Love the colors and streaking. Great job.

Thanks Dave, I really appreciate you saying so!
I don't know what it is but I've always enjoyed painting stone surfaces more than anything else, the more weathered the better
Apologies for my late reply by the way.

It's no problem Jamie. The entire piece looks great but for some reason the stone really stood out. Its subtle but looks great....

Shit Hot! Good face and an excellent paint job.

I'm having a hard time tryin to figure out how to blend acrylics at the moment, its murder. Is that a purple ink wash?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JamieDMac In reply to Sarkazum [2013-03-30 12:30:25 +0000 UTC]

Cheers mate!

Know the feeling, blending them is a right faff. I bugger it up a lot and have to strip it and start over. I try to keep everything thin so it can painted wet on wet and blend it that way. Sort of like oils. Then build it up in layers.

The purple is a wash of just bog standard acrylic. I then went over that on some areas, like the chest, with a mix wash of purple and grey to tone it down and try to blend into the base colour.
I used inks mainly on the jacket and base. A mix of black and browns to help get that grubby look

Hey Paul, sorry man, please forgive the late reply...
Thanks so much for the kind words as always on this guy though! And for the faves too!!

Don't know whether you would be still interested in a casting or not but I'm going to offer some up for sale over on the Clubhouse. See if it fairs any better than last time. I'll post a thread in the new kits section with the details later today.

Good to see you on here by the way!

Stokleplinger In reply to JamieDMac [2010-03-16 23:35:34 +0000 UTC]

UM.... YES! I've been waiting for that kit for a long time!!! I'll be first in line.

JamieDMac In reply to Stokleplinger [2010-03-18 11:15:43 +0000 UTC]

Cool! I'm actually going to wait until I get a test cast back before posting details on the CH... it's been so long since the mould was last used I just want to be sure there are no problems. It should be fine but always best to check though.

I'll give you a shout in a few weeks. Probably be about mid-April before I get the first casting back.

DATS AWESOME!!!
Do you work for DC Direct or something???

I get the feel of the Justice League animated Grundy when looking at this bust...As compared to the 13th ghost Grundy.

Also, He has the best epitaph of all time...'Born On A Monday'.

Good job dude!!!

JamieDMac In reply to Jefferson-Shepherd [2009-05-20 21:45:09 +0000 UTC]

You've just made my day with that comment... thank you kind sir!!

But no, I don't work for DCD. Would be mighty sweet though.

You're right about the animated JL Grundy. The sculpt was heavily influenced by that design and also from the Long Halloween comic art by Tim Sale.

Cheers again for the compliment, and also for the fave, really appreciate it!

All the best.

I can't resist.... "Solomon Grundy want pants too!" With good reason.

Really nice work, I especially like the small details such as the ridges around his mouth, the texture of the clothes and hair, and that rather lovely shade of blue-purple-grey color.

This is the one I like the most of your gallery!! Really, a great gallery, great job!!!

I used to paint Warhammer miniatures, I made big mud sculptures during three years and I collect figures, for example I adore my Dude's Bobblehead So...I think I know what I'm talkin' 'bout! XDD

And....thanx 4 the fav!!!!!

JamieDMac In reply to EmegE [2008-03-24 22:33:02 +0000 UTC]

Hey, thank you so much!!

Oh cool, I used to paint Warhammer minis too. If I try to now though my hands and eyes start to ache
Do you have any photos of your sculpture work? Your illustration pieces are gorgeous! So no worries about the fave, it's my pleasure. I love that movie. Really want to get those action figures of the Dude and Walter, they look so cool!

Take care.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EmegE In reply to JamieDMac [2008-03-27 01:51:12 +0000 UTC]

Eyes ache, yep, illness of Warhammer minis painters xDD

I've got photos of my sculpture works, but not in DA, maybe one day I put all that stuff here...I also liked to paint stones, like Ciruelo...he's an ilustrator from Argentina, and the painted stones are called "petropictos"

The Dude abides!

(If u see something strange, sorry for my english, I'm tryin' to improove it 'cause maybe I'm going to live in London!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JamieDMac In reply to EmegE [2008-03-30 20:52:01 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, so it's not just me then that suffers from Warhammer painting strains... that's good to know

I've always fancied doing some stone painting, I started collecting pieces of slate to paint on but just not sure what to do with them. I'll have to check out Ciruelo's work, not familiar with him. You don't really see many stone painters. Hope you put some pictures of them up here along with some of your sculptures, would love to see them

Cool! I wish you the best of luck if you do go live in London. I lived there for a while but it got a bit too expensive for me so unfortunately couldn't afford to stay. Your english is excellent by the way, no need to apologise
If anything I should be apologising for my lack of Spanish. I can only about manage two sentences

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EmegE In reply to JamieDMac [2008-04-01 13:20:45 +0000 UTC]

Oh, now I'm curious! Two sentences in spanish? Surprise me!

Ciruelo's a great ilustrator, I love his dragons and "petropictos", the painted stones I told u, he paints with airbrush and...well, here's the web, will be better:

[link]

I discovered his art because he made the cover of Steve Vai's (great, crazy guitar player, hope u've heard some music!) album "7th song", this is the petropicto:

[link]

Mmmm..i think I'm gonna put u on friend's list, you've got a great gallery, and you're nice! XDD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JamieDMac In reply to EmegE [2008-04-02 21:00:54 +0000 UTC]

Donde esta el sanitario?

...that's a good one to know which is why I always remember it

WOW!! Ciruelo's work is amazing!! The petropictos actually look three dimensional, like he's carved into the stone. And it's all done with an airbrush?!! Incredible work. I really like his dragons too. Love the one with the sail ship. I recognise some of his paintings from the Spectrum books. You ever seen those?...: [link] br=1
The cover to Magia is in one of them. I'll have to see if I can find his books over here. Thanks for the links!

I've heard some of Steve Vai's music, mostly from the soundtracks he's worked on XD
The stuff I've heard I really like though. Best I'd get my hands on some his albums. Always on the look out for good music.

That's very kind, thank you! Think I'm going to have to do the same as you have a wonderful gallery, you're comic pages are fantastic (meant to say so before), and you're very nice too!

Hasta la vista!

... I don't think that one counts. Told you I should be the one apologising

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EmegE In reply to JamieDMac [2008-04-04 00:43:26 +0000 UTC]

Ooooh, now I know how these Spectrum books are...inside! XD 'Cause I've seen two in a shop, but with the packaging...and very expensive, as "imported good"!

Maybe you've heard this song, a Steve Vai's very well-known song! In this version sounds like a John Williams soundtrack! XDD [link]

Ok, "Where's the toilet", i think is essential! Oh! If you've got any question, if u wanna know any word or sentence in spanish, just ask!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JamieDMac In reply to EmegE [2008-04-05 20:54:32 +0000 UTC]

Shame the Spectrum books are so expensive over there. If you ever see them going cheap though definitely pick them up if you can because they're fantastic! They're just filled with great art work which is mainly sci-fi/fantasy related. And it has a sculpture section with toys and statues!

Ha, now that was cool! See what you mean by the John Williams soundtrack XD Crazy what he does with the guitar near the end by spinning that thing around (forget what it's called ) I love it when you get guitars like that with an ochestra behind them. One of my faves was when Metallica did Nothing Else Matters with an ochestra... you've no doubt heard it but anyway XD [link]

Oh absolutely essential! Plus it saves the embarrasment of having to perform any awkward body language and hand signals
That's very nice of you! I most certainly will do, thanks!

Most welcome! I am pretty good. I seem to go through art stages and writing stages, though, and am currently in a writing stage. Which is nice! How you doing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JamieDMac In reply to vandonovan [2008-03-17 14:33:23 +0000 UTC]

That's good to hear! I go through stages like that at times too, mind you I'm hopeless when it comes to writing. The other week all I really wanted to do was draw for some reason. Think I was just bored of painting this stuff. But I'm doing okay, thanks. Not much happening right now. Just the same ol' same ol'.
Anyway, take it easy mate.

The painting came out really great though. I'm jealous how good they look. Hey did your spiderman one ever come back? I keep wanting to see it all painted up.

JamieDMac In reply to vandonovan [2008-03-18 22:55:17 +0000 UTC]

Thanks again mate. Nah, never did get a Spidey back. Was quite looking forward to painting it too. Can't believe it's been over a year since I finished that. I just got tired of asking the guy to send me one. Passed the point of caring about it now. Wouldn't have killed him to pop one in the post, but nevermind.
