I've always liked stories where the transformed person is a statue in a gallery, is still aware and enjoys the experience.
Notice that in an art gallery that there is a usually soothing quiet and peace. Occasionally there is the sound of visitors, janitors, gallery employees, the rare babble of gallery openings, with long interludes where the gallery is empty and silent. Periods between visitors, hours when the gallery is closed, nighttime and holiday closures.
Often exhibits are rotated, you are on display for a period then moved to a rear room for storage. Sometimes you are loaned to another museum or gallery. You are packed in a crate and spend peaceful days or weeks as freight.
