This is GORGEOUS. It reminds me a lot of John Pierard's illustrations for Samuel Delaney's fantasy novella Prismatica, about a quest to free a princess from a grey man that takes the hero and his sidekick through a variety of colorful lands. (It's only available though the collection Distant Stars... I can't find anywhere else, alas.)
