Finally finished! This is my entry for the VERSUS I'm hosting.

Anyway, these two are Orpheus and Eurydice, one of the many ill-fated pairs of Greek mythology. For those of you not familiar with the story, here it is in a nutshell:

Orpheus was a gifted musician--when he sang and played his lyre, he could charm anyone or anything with his music. He was deeply in love with Eurydice, but on the day of their wedding, she went walking with her handmaidens, was bitten on the heel by a venomous snake, and died. Orpheus was heartbroken, but on the advice of some sympathetic gods, he traveled to the underworld to win his wife back. He played and sang before Hades and Persephone, and they were so moved by his song that they allowed Eurydice to return with him on one condition: he couldn't look back at her until they were both out of the underworld. They were both almost out, when Orpheus, forgetting himself, turned around to make sure Eurydice was still there. Eurydice was behind him, but when he saw her, she immediately began to fade away. She was forced to return to the underworld, where he could not go again, and Orpheus had to return to the upper world alone, having lost his love twice.

Just a teeny bit tragic, huh? This might be the last piece of art you see from me in a while, since I'm leaving for college in four days (!), but maybe I'll manage to squeeze something else in (;
