Tre's real name if Franklin Edwin Wright III.
His name sounds like it was of French origin.
When Tre joined a band called 'The Lookouts' he was renamed "Tres Cool" and they dropped the 's' to make a play on the III in his name (so it is now "Tre Cool").
The reason I believe they chose the name Tre Cool is because it is also of French origin (Tres meaning very).
I little complicated, but I believe that would be the story behind it.
