"Alice in a Dali Dream" is the title - this was a very fun one to do - one of my favourite Alice in Wonderland paintings I've done yet! This is the ninth painting in my sub-series called "Alice in Other Lands" which are paintings featuring Alice in a variety of unusual circumstances, thrown into settings inspired by my love of art history (be sure to check out the other installments honoring Bosch, VelΓ‘zquez, Brueghel, da Vinci and more). This of course is a bit of a parody / homage to Spanish Surrealist (and fellow sometime Floridian artist) Salvador Dali! Here we have my Alice with nods to countless Dali references - the lobster telephone, swans reflecting elephants, more elephants on stilts, and of course melting clocks as in the 1931 masterpiece "Persistence of Memory." All the little detailing like the dials on the phone and wonderful colouring, especially with Alice's lovely blonde hair! And gosh, I absolutely love that illusion over there with the swans and elephants; very creative. C;

I love Dali, and he's such a perfect artist to work Alice into, it's amazing. She looks right at home with melting watches and all the other creepy things. I think I like the lobster on the telephone the most lol. This may sound odd, but I feel like there's so much detail going on that Alice herself sort of looks like....I can't think of the right word. Her clothing, not her stockings though, look sort of rushed maybe? The shading seems lost in the blend, maybe. Hmm...whatever though, it's still really lovely and by far my favorite so far.
