Description Tiger Bust

5(h) x 6(w) x 3(d)

Original: Plasticine
Final: Cold Cast Bronze

For those curious, Cold Cast Bronze is a casting method using bronze powder and a two part resin plastic. It's actual bronze that's been powdered and added to the tinted resin mixture (I use Smooth-On plastics). Once demolded, you just buff the cast as you would an actual bronze cast and rub with shoe polish to add depth. In this particular piece I used oil paints to add the aging patina, as actual acid patinas will destroy the resin binder. The advantages of course are that I don't have to work with molten metal, and the cost is significantly less, this piece averages about $20 in materials as opposed to several hundred for an actual bronze pour (I don't fill my resin, I prefer a heavy piece). Because I can use a rubber mold, I can also make many duplicates, avoiding the need for "lost wax" casting methods.

Thanks a lot man. So time consuming but well worth it, it was a Christmas gift for my brother and his wife...they loved it. Did you get my email? I sent it a few weeks ago
