Squinty eyes and tasty ears? You could secretly be Asian, jk. I love birds but they also scare me too with their talons and razor sharp beaks. I'm always afraid to get too close.

wicked squinty eyes, hehe, I love your expression! the direction of lines make it look like it's about to jump out of the picture, great works!

MMMMMMMMmmmmmmm......
Welllllll....
To try an cut a long story short..
I was a soldier for Australia, and during my time, both of my knees wore out.. I no longer have any cartilage behind my knee caps.(very long story) from long distance running and pack marching etc etc. I have had a number of operations on my knees, hence the xray, and the pain plagues me all day and all night every day. I am only 39 years old.. and have been out of the military for 11 years now. I refuse to use pain killers... At the moment, one day I will probably be forced too... oh well. I will put up with it. But I use the picture because now my knees are a big part of the person I am,. They affect me, all of the time.. My wife and kids understand that, but it still has an impact on them too. When I remind myself of my knees with a picture which is separate from me,,, eg the xray, it reminds me that i need to continue to live normally, for the sake of my family and for me. When my children see me doing my knee exercises they still ask me why I have to do that, I answer them as honestly as I can.
My son wants to be a soldier too one day, if he still wants to when he grows up I wont try and stop him, but, it will break my heart all the same. Because being a soldier made me the person I am today, and I am not ashamed of that. For lots of reasons. But soldiers die..

now i feel bad that i asked you...
however, i admire your courage in dealing with life the way you do. and your honesty with your children. i very strongly believe in being honest with children (everybody, in fact!). it gives them a fair idea about life and allows them to deal with things instead of having unreal expectations & fantasies (the way WE did when we were kids, eh?).
the only way to reduce your feeling of pain (since yours is a chronic problem) is to keep in good humour & high spirits. these i wish upon you in bountiful measure, my friend! may the love & support of your family and friends (i'd like to count myself among them) never diminish!
