His story sort of reminds me of Chakan The Foreverman. An old comic book character, who also had an original sega genesis game.
Chakan was a young swordsman who challenged Death himself to a duel and won, he was granted immortality as a prize. After living for thousands of years, he got sick of living, but Death said he could leave this world until all supernatural evil was vanquished.

It's different from my story. My character was murdered and seeks revenge in his afterlife.

Yeah, it's pretty obscure, I was just reminded of it, because your character is not able to move on until someone has been killed.

You've added a lot since you submitted it to the ZU contest. The colors and watercolor sky give this piece a very dark but fantastic feel. I'm also impressed with how you made the ghost cowboy transparent.
