I feel your pain... I tend to just put a gradient in the background of most of my images so that I don't have to bother with these things xD
Steve Vai once said to focus on your strengths and ignore your weaknesses... but I suppose if I want to become a better artist, I must improve on my weaknesses to the point where they become my strengths.
