Description A completely new, completely CG drawing, done with my newly acquired tablet. (Other than the background photos, which are public domain images.) I started drawing her while watching Clockwork Orange with my friends, and finished her earlier today while at work.

Her species is a common inhabitant of the Middeninan Holdings Planet Redstrom, a hot, high gravity world known for its red sky, terrain and seas, and the immense red star that it orbits very close to.

Click "Download" to see the full view, it's a rather large image.

The Xain alone can be found here- [link]

High-G...Hmm must be a mix of Endo and Exo-skeleton and muscles and bio-pneumatics(like a spider uses in it's legs)

I haven't worked up their internal physiology yet, I'm going to do a anatomy drawing for the Xain like I did my Hikki.

Cool, As for the redstrom Rockbug mostly referring to what I would do.

Understood. My idea for their internal anatomy was always going to be similar to the insects we have on earth now, just scaled up.

I think pure exo-skeletons have issues when scaled up, but that might be oxygen levels as well not 100%

Mmm, I've thought of various fibrous cartilage or keratin-based internal support structures, we'll see when I finalize the design.

This is beautiful, I love it. Good to see you're still drawing arthropods.

Thanks, and glad you think so!
I love drawing these critters, this is the most common Xain species, you'll see plenty of em from me.

Looks very nice, and the background definately helps...just lacks the same impact without it.

Thanks, I thought so too, I didn't want to leave her just floating in space.

I can't help but notice that certain parts of her anatomy are... um... very strongly effected by Redstrom's high gravity. And I'm not sold on that hair color with that background.

But! Xain are awesome, and this is awesome.

JazzLizard In reply to Sueezing [2008-05-08 14:52:13 +0000 UTC]

Lol, having your body supported by an intricate system of micromuscles does wonders for the physical form, Xain don't have skeletons, parts of their bodies are covered with an exoskeleton, and the rest is encased in muscles and cartilage.

And I might recolor the hair, what would you suggest?

Sueezing In reply to JazzLizard [2008-05-14 10:47:30 +0000 UTC]

Yay exoskeletons!

And I'm not a color theorist, but my gut is telling me you want something that will have a bit more contrast with the sunset behind her. Maybe a black or brown, maybe the color of the rocks she's standing on- Or maybe something nutty like blue or green.

JazzLizard In reply to Sueezing [2008-06-06 20:09:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, her coloration is designed to blend in with her surroundings, but I might make her hair a but more vibrant.

Now that is a wonderful showing of how amazingly fantastic your art is/getting/advancing/being.

Looking forward to more! *thumbs up!*

Cheers!

Thanks! I'm doing my best to get better at jazz like this, especially seeing how I'm gonna be a senior next year, and prolly gonna go straight into a career as an illustrator.

Too hot to touch, eh?

JazzLizard In reply to Caladbolgsama [2008-05-08 00:37:47 +0000 UTC]

Naw, 120 or so during the day, 80s-90s at night.
In the winter.

The Venrocks and Vulpesants of Midden were able to adapt to such temperature extremes, and the Xain already there were used to it since they arrived.

Caladbolgsama In reply to JazzLizard [2008-05-08 00:44:39 +0000 UTC]

I'd imagine it'd kill'm to remove them from such an environment.
I know I wouldn't enjoy such a hot planet.

JazzLizard In reply to Caladbolgsama [2008-05-08 02:20:22 +0000 UTC]

Nah, Xain are as adaptive as humans, you can take an eskimo and toss em on the equator, and he'll get used to it.
Most visitors to Redstrom take quickly to the "clothing optional" unwritten rule that much of the population employs.

Caladbolgsama In reply to JazzLizard [2008-05-08 02:23:56 +0000 UTC]

I can barely handle 78 degrees F at any time of day or night. Think I could enjoy a Xain's company at temperatures as low as 76 F?

JazzLizard In reply to Caladbolgsama [2008-05-08 02:36:34 +0000 UTC]

Well it would definitely help if you liked the heat, insects in general like warmer climes over cooler ones.

Caladbolgsama In reply to JazzLizard [2008-05-08 15:25:01 +0000 UTC]

I figured as much. I like the cold too much
Got any ideas for cold-climate girls?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JazzLizard In reply to Caladbolgsama [2008-05-08 17:50:17 +0000 UTC]

There are some colder areas on Midden, and some cool-climate planets within Middens holdings as well.
I might have to do an illustration of one of the critters inhabiting those climes...

I'd love to see it
Since I live in Florida, I get enough heat and humidity on a daily basis, even in the wintertime.
