Description
This is the bridge over the river Kwei in Kanchanaburi, Thailand.
This is part of the Burma railroad, built during WW2 by the Japanese across Thailand to pass personnel and materiel through Southeast Asia to battle the British over control of India.
Thailand was never occupied by the Japanese, opting instead to cooperate with them.
The Japanese brought in slave labor from Allied POWs and other occupied countries around Asia, and rushed them to finish the railroad quickly, at great expense of human lives.
