Lately, the Disney Channel has been using their late night hours as a dumping ground for their older original movies from the '90s and very early '00s. One of them, Rip Girls (the one about the girl who moves to Hawaii and inherits a plantation or something), aired earlier this week. I didn't actually stay up late to watch it, but seeing it on the schedule got me all nostalgic. I was thirteen when this one premiered, just beginning to explore the artistic possibilities of the water, and this was another one of those movies with an underwater scene that burned itself into my memory and stayed there for years after. I tried to recreate it as best as I could remember - plantation-inheriting girl tries to learn how to surf, but gets knocked off her board and pummeled to the bottom of the ocean, so her friends dive down to save her. I completely forget everything else about the movie except for this.
