Description A simple tribute to the man who's been my biggest influence in the world of comics, Bill Watterson. The lush art and clever writing of "Calvin and Hobbes" has impacted my work in ways I can't even begin to describe.

Watterson once mentioned how space can be used effectively in a drawing to create the proper atmospherics and the illusion of time. I tried to achieve that here - a sense that something big is about to go down, but Calvin is totally unaware of it.

I had almost forgot you had drawn a Calvin pic, Jesse. Your use of space here is right up the with Watterson's

Nice, good use of the negative space, watterson was awsome at it.
Luckily we still have C&H, swamp and garfield still in our papers here.

Ahh. Calvin and Hobbes. How I miss them. Those were the days when I could pick up the paper's comic section and actually be entertained. Now Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side, and Foxtrot are but a memory.

Well, "FoxTrot" is still on Sundays, but in the case of "Calvin and Hobbes" and "The Far Side", I think it's better that Watterson and Gary Larson went out at the top of their game. You can tell that Bill Amend has been strapped for ideas lately.

I do remember Calvin & Hobbes.
I was wondering if there would be an animated series of those two characters

Oh, definitely not. Watterson's vision for the characters was as a comic strip and nothing else. They wouldn't work in any other medium.

I don't care about that man's principles, he could of made a lot of money off of those two.
Cool picture. I didn't know Watterson influenced your work

I actually applaud Watterson for maintaining his artistic integrity even when the opportunity to cash in was being forced upon him. I don't think the strip's world would have been nearly as effective and enchanting if the characters were on every piece of merchandise in every store window. He goes into detail on this in "The Calvin and Hobbes 10th Anniversary Book", which is a delightful read.
