I think I just may be the first person ever to draw a cat and a mouse playing sungka against each other!
Niho's been getting all the attention lately, so I decided to draw something for the other two Critter girls, Ming-ming and Mika, just to even the score! Here they are, playing a traditional Filipino game of sungka, and it looks like Ming-ming's winning!
Y'know, ever since I drew this, I've really been getting interested in the game! I even wanna know where I can buy a board, or how I can make one of my own! But that can wait, because I'm finally playing the Bantumi game on my mobile that's been ignored for ages!

About Sungka =============
Sungka is a game similar to Bantumi and Mancala. The board has two rows of 6 small holes, and two big holes on either side of the board for each player. The object of the game is to pick up shells/stones from the small holes and distribute them one-by-one around the board, including the player's "bahay" or home pot, the big hole on either side. This continues until all the shells/stones are in the players' "bahay" and the one with the most stones wins.
If you have access to older Nokia phones like the 3310 or the 5510 (the one I have), then you can play a game of Bantumi, which is practically the same as Sungka, with some modified rules.

When I saw the board, I immediately thought Mancala, but it's Sungka. I like their expressions here. Mika looks like she's thinking, "This is tough..." while Ming-Ming looks like she has this whole thing in the bag.

Well, they're basically the same game really. Sungka is just one more alternative name to Mancala I suppose.
Mika's really concentrating right now to find a way to turn things around!

i've tried playing Mancala in the past, i suck at it.
this is really cute! and the coloring is great, i really like the grass texture. and the poses and expressions are great, you can really tell that Mika's trying to figure out her next move!

I don't understand the game much myself, but I'm trying to learn!
Playing around with brushes and filters really helps in creating grass, sand and even rain for digital works! It saved me some time to make the grass, so I was able to focus more on Ming and Mika's poses in the pic!

Yep! Hey, maybe that's another thing I can make a tutorial for!
I first learned how to do rain using noise and the motionblur filter with this tutorial. -->[link] I later used big brushes set on dissolve then motionblurred or gaussian blurred them to make grass or sand!

Well, there are similar games to Sungka. Maybe it was Mancala or Bantumi. Anyway, it's basically the same game!

Oh my god this picture is SO cute!!! I love how big their eyes are and how little their arms and bodies are!! So cute!! Mika looks really deep in thought which is cute for a little mouse girl and ming ming looks really confident and snarky!! Great job on these two!!!

Wheee critter art! I love the poses in this one, they're so adorable! And it's a good BG for this scene. The colouring and lineart are good, maybe try making the colours bolder but otherwise it's fine. And I really envy your eye style

I think there's a foldable Mancala board you can buy, maybe at toy stores. One of my schoolmates back in high school brought something like that to school before.
