Description
An old quick, sketch of a mermaid. Done only with the ball-pen. I kinda consider this one a big success, since this one was made like... 3 years ago in my former workplace, so I had no references or inspirational pictures to draw from
. Yeah, I was bored at work once, so I did this, again - hoping that my boss would not come to visit me 
Fortunately only our accountant showed up this day, so I didn't had to hide it 
There are still things I don't like in this one, but I won't say which ones, not to draw unnecessary attention to them
I always loved, when mermaids have actual, visible gills, it just looks right for me. ^_^

You know what? YOU KNOW WHAT?! You actually made me stop and think about it too. And... yeah, You are right. It not only would work, but it is actually more preferable position
I mean... water with oxygen is entering form the mouth anyway. And there is a countercurrent gas exchange from the blood flow, to maintain most favorable gradients of oxygen, so it would be mandatory for oxygenated blood to move up the gills anyway. But what really makes this one work is the area of the exchange. With the throat on the way there isn't really a lot of space in mermaid's neck, so the gills would be pretty small. Putting them on the ribs increases their size. And more surface equals more efficient gas exchange, which is important for body this big. They would have even more space, if we put them on the belly, but I guess the distance between mermaids mouth and gills would be too great then
So yeah... mermaid science!

Exactly! Maybe the belly would be too much (Not really. If nature managed to make sharks work, this is not that hard), but swapping lungs for gills give them more space AND allows us to put something there. I mean, mermaids have no lungs, right? So what's in there? Well, gills!
Furthermore, it would also allow mermaids to do something very simple: Holding their breath. Just close the water-exit-ports. But don't make 'em laught, or they'll leak XD
I suppose gills are usually placed on the neck because that's more-or-less where fishes have them. However, they don't really have a neck, and thus they're right next to the heart.

Zacznę od rzeczy, które mi się podobają. Na pewno będzie to ogólny kształt ciała, skrzela, uszy. To wszystko jest bardzo syrenie i świetnie się prezentuje. Podobnie ślicznie wyszły włosy, które wspaniale falują w wodzie. Udało Ci się także raczej dobrze narysować piersi, które wyglądają tak, jak piersi bez podtrzymania powinny się układać 
Jeśli chodzi o błędy, to wiem, że raczej rzadko rysujesz humanoidy (no i nie jest to nowy rysunek), ale rzuciło mi się w oczy kilka rzeczy. Po pierwsze, głowa - jest raczej za duża (niemal szerokości torsu!). Rękom brakuje przewężenia, wyglądają trochę jak rury. Dłonie, zwłaszcza prawa, są okej. Elementy twarzy wydają się za małe w stosunku do wielkości głowy (i są za wąsko rozstawione jak na taką głowę). Brakuje mi też trochę bioder u tej syrenki, ponieważ nawet szczupłe kobiety o chłopięcej budowie mają zwykle biodra o podobnej szerokości jak ramiona.
Ale ogólnie to hej, jest syrenka, więc jest super

Ups... wiesz widać gdzieś się zawieruszył pomiędzy moimi pracami. W sumie to dość niedawno go znalazłem i zeskanowałem dopiero, sam o nim w zasadzie zapomniałem

Pretty cool design. A few bits and bobs that could be tweaked anatomy wise, but otherwise really neat drawing.
Specially considering it's done with a ball pen. Even my handwriting comes out looking like trash with those blasted things, let alone any drawings I might try to do

Przepiękna syrena. I nie ma co tego wątpliwości, że to syrena. Twoje stare prace mają swój urok.
A teraz przejdźmy do minusów, które od razu rzuciły mi się w twarz. Nos, nie pasujący do reszty rysunku, jakby ktoś inny go rysował. Podobnie z ustami. Lewa ręka układa się... dziwnie. Po za tym nie widzę nic szczególnego, a przynajmniej coś do czego mogę się więcej przyczepić, bo reszta wygląda dobrze. Całościowo rysunek prezentuje się świetnie

Taa, nie mam doświadczenia z rysowaniem bardziej realistycznych nosów, a niestety jak już to zrobiłem długopisem, to nie było szans na poprawki
