Description
Onyx Squad is a Clone Commando Unit that serves as one of the few Special Forces units attached to the 501st Legion. While trained in full-fledged commando missions like Delta Squad or Clone Force 99, unlike the rest of the Clone Commandos, Onyx Squad has a preference to work on the front lines with regular clone troopers - where their skills and talents were well welcomed.

Originally, Onyx Squad was involved in a few covert missions behind Separatist lines in the early days, but the unit would find its home with the 501st Legion during the Second Battle of Geonosis, where they were able to help with storming fortified Geonosian positions. They soon became highly sought after when Geonosian strongholds were found due to their training and also their equipment - where they found that they, oddly enough, actually liked the role they found themselves in. Because of this, both Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex offered them a position in the 501st Legion, to which they accepted. Since then, they have become something of a hybrid unit - A Commando/Heavy Assault Unit.

To help reflect their unique role, All of the commandos in the unit modified their Katarn-class commando armor to sport a unique geometric camouflage pattern in different shades of grey and also sported the colors of the 501st Legion on their knee guards, parts of their chest plate and shoulder pads, a modified stripe over their helmets and covered nearly 60% of their backpacks.

- RC-16/84-9181 ‘Yeager’ (First from left) - A Clone Captain and serves as Onyx's Squad Leader.

- RC-40/68-2349 ‘Thermite’ (Second from left) - The Squad's Demolitions Specialist.

- RC-82/91-7901 ‘Hesh’ (Third from Left) - The Squad's Tech Expert and Slicer. In addition, he also serves as the Squad's Tactical Air Control Party.

- RC-36/69-5173 ‘Dante’ (Far Right) - The Squad's Scout and Marksman.

While all members use the standard-issue weapons and kit of a typical Clone Commando (DC-17m Interchangeable Weapon System, DC-17 Blaster Pistols, Vibro-blade in left-hand plate, and Repulsor), Dante wasn't all that impressed with the Sniper Rifle part of the DC-17m and so instead, he carries an IQA-11 Sniper Rifle with him. This works out, for when the unit is assigned Assassination missions, it makes it hard to determine if it was a Clone Sniper or a Bounty Hunter who took the shot.
