This is awesome Jeff! It makes me think of so many different things - like a Creator who is angry at what we have done to his creation, and is coming to take away our power source. Or maybe he is still creating it and is carefully placing it in the sky to feed the earth.

Maybe he has promised his love that he would pluck that bauble out of the sky and give it to her as a token of his love.

You can look at this in many ways.

I guess I always saw it as if he were carrying it across the sky. I never really thought about how many ways it could be taken. Thank you very much for your insight. Much appreciated.

I really dig the way you used subtle colour shifts to describe the figure. The loose brushwork in the reflection is tits also.

This reminds me of when i first learn't about clay when i was a child in school and how excited and amused i was with the way certain marks could be left onto it like your brushstrokes on here, i love the way they dance around and catch the natural light in the sky area. This is one of the things i picked up about the outsider and faved it.

I am not saying your work here is like a childs in anyway its very you. Just that the way you use the brush to create the atomasphere and texture takes me back.

I can see many angles from this, the one i particularly liked was a child catching a pearl dropping from his mothers necklace. Lol.

Saying that my picture has a child like quality, or at lease takes you back to a childhood memory, is quite a compliment. I do appreciate it very much. To me, it just means that the fun I had, while creating this, is relayed to the viewer. Thank you.

Your welcome Jeff it is always a pleasure. I find your work very interesting.

On a seperate note from earlier posts and in general chat.

A lot of artists have tried to take themselves back to a childlike state when painting because they feel that this was a time of innocence, when a person was less likely to be influenced and affected so much by the garbage that goes with society as one becomes older. And children see things through more simplistic unadulterated eyes and purity of mind. Shapes and colours, textures etc because it is all new to them and each fresh experience is a revelation.

Whereas i for example as mature person and artist can get bogged down with all the complexities of the human condition and beyond, so much it can depress my work from the aesthetics.

Yeah, painting should be fun. If you're pushing yourself too hard, or making yourself work in a style that is not in tune with how you feel at the moment, sometimes (maybe most of the time) it just screws things up. Keeping yourself in a childlike state of mind while working, allows you to just enjoy the ride. But like you say, the complexities of the human condition makes it very hard sometimes. Some of the best painting sessions I can remember started with me sitting in front of a blank board and saying to myself "FUCK IT, This isn't the only board in the world and I'm just going to sit here and play with paint !"

I think Picasso focused on the childlike state of mind a lot. But he was much better at attaining it than I'll ever be.

Thank you very much for the comment. I enjoyed reading every word.

BLOODFANTASTIQUE In reply to Jeff1966 [2007-04-06 01:03:01 +0000 UTC]

ooooh! thankyou!

One of the things about Picasso i think was he was great at recognising a movement before anybody else 'in contemporary Europe anyway' and synthesising it all by taking it to its full conclusion. He also capitalised on it also in a very charming way and was still able to get drunk at the same time. But i didn't know him personally, so probably can't comment really. Lol

Also i think its easier to reach that childlike state if you have missed out or been denied the freedom of a child when you were a child for some reason, because you are always yearning and searching for that lost childhood you never had.

Mind you that last statement is very generalised and arguable. From many angles.

I do tend to rant i must admit. Thankyou for taking the time to read them, as like your paintings and drawing, they inspire me to find them and think about things i might never of done. You keep the grey matter ticking over.

Jeff1966 In reply to BLOODFANTASTIQUE [2007-04-06 04:57:43 +0000 UTC]

I don't know about the childhood thing. I had it pretty easy as a child. Now I think I revert back to it just to get away from the real world. Or maybe, everyone finds their own reasons to be a child. I don't know. That's a subject I will have to invest some thinking time into. I'm just thought vomiting now.

Thank you. You're quite the grey matter person yourself. Hit the right subjects and I'll go off on a rant as well. Rants are cool.

Why is it that "powers" always have to be "higher"? Maybe we should start believing in some "lower powers," and giving them credit for some of the stuff going on...

Love the gold in this, and the arrangement of hands around the sun's corona is inspirationally dramatic. Definitely worth a favorite.

Between George Michaels, Billy Ray Cyrus, and now Bob Seger, I'm thinking I should take up some kind of music, even if I have to lip-sync it Milli-Vanilli style and air-guitar the instruments New-Kids-on-the-Block style...

Well, "here I go, turn the page"...

I like this because it can be taken so many different ways. He could be controlling the sun's movement, and giving it power or taking it from it. I also like how you used the warm colors yet some of the painting looks cold.

This is a gorgeous, GORGEOUS depiction of Helios -- without the chariot. It's beautiful. It's also a very unique depiction, as well. One usually doesn't see the sun cradled in hands, even in traditional myths.

Excellent. favs.

I am amazed not only at the dimension and color but by the feel of the piece.

To me it feels benevolent as if the deity was shading an already sun baked world with his hands and having grabbed a few hot skillets in my life I can well imagine the pain this might produce.

Well done indeed!
