July 17th, 2014So, I started this while I was at work when it wasn't busy. I'm not supposed to, but hey, drawing makes time go by faster when I'm not busy and it's better than just sitting there.
I started with Godzilla. I drew him in pencil and I knew I wanted something to be shooting at him but didn't know what at the time. When I got home I decided on MechaGodzilla so I sketched him in and drew thin lines to where the missiles smoke would be. I didn't want a straight line. I wanted it to look crazy. Like they were shooting off in random directions until they finally locked on to Godzilla. After everything was done in pencil (Godzilla, Mecha Godzilla, the smoke and the buildings) I went back with pens and markers to darken everything up.
My personal opinion, I think Godzilla came out great. I like the pose that he is in and over all I like the idea I have. however, I'm not very impressed with myself when it comes to MechaGodzilla. I did go with the classic 70's style (which is my favorite) but his body and face just doesn't look as good as it could be. This is one that I would like to try again some time in the future.
I do plan on adding color to this picture so keep an eye out for a future upload with added color.

I think the whole thing looks good to be honest. MG is just nearly impossible to get to look right with just pencil work. It's all those straight lines and everything. But you got a really neat style, and he sort of fits that. So It's not as distracting as you might think. I love the effects of the missile's trails though. The fact that you actually gave them some depth and life, really makes the whole attack stand out. I look forward to seeing some color
I would have commented earlier, but I sort of got sidetracked with my own drawing. Had to spend my last day off of work to hammer it out lol

Yeah, I don't do good with Mech's or non-living things. So when you have all those straight lines I just do have the patience for it. ha ha. That's why I usually stick with bio. Because you can have a bit more freedom with them. My favorite part of the piece is the explosions though.

You should see how bad my Mech drawings are before I ink over them with illustrator. Actually...all my drawings are pretty bad before I ink over them lol.
