Description I was watching the Rugrats the other night (yes, I am 22 years old and I STILL watch it. Only the old episodes though, from 1991-1994) and I was like, man I really want to draw older-ized versions of them! So I did. I realize the show All Grown Up already older-ized the Rugrats but I never really liked that show so I made up new clothing designs. Just like the spin off All Grown Up however, I still chose to age them 10 years into the future.

Before anyone asks, I REFUSE to draw Dil and Kimmie. I hate them. Dil pretty much killed the show. Kimmie just buried it.

There seems to be a popular pairing of Lil and Tommy here on Dev. so I just went with it. Lil has a crush on Tommy and Tommy has no idea what to think!

I drew Phil holding a jar of butterflies because in the cartoon, he was always talking about eating worms and whatnot. I figure being really into entymology would be the older-ized version of worm obsession.

I couldn't resist giving Chuckie a Game Boy Color. The Rugrats came out in 1991 and Chuckie was like 2, making him 12ish in 2001. Although the Game Boy Advanced had come out, I was still playing my good old Game Boy color up until the end of that year.

I don't like the way I drew Angelica. She reminds me of that blonde girl from the Burger King Kids Club. Only 90's kids will know what I'm talking about. Yes, that is a bluetooth btw.

I love this; great depiction of the gang! I agree that in the original Rugrats show, Dil and Kimmie were generally unwelcome additions. In fact, the film was terrible (none of the characters felt at all true to who they were in the series) and the sort of show revival that came afterwards was definitely lacking, especially compared to the brilliance of the original series. That said, I can forgive them for it because Dil was one of the best parts of the spinoff. His character is hilarious, creative and insanely unique and I found him very relatable. Kimmie was fine in the spinoff too; not an important character but she worked as part of the group. I get your dislike of them in the Rugrats series, but did you really hate them that much even in the spinoff?

Hi!Β  So sorry to respond over a year later, it has been a long time since I logged in here.Β  I did not watch too many episodes of the spinoff but from what I did watch, other than the first 1 hour episode where the babies go forward in time, I did not like it.Β  I think part of the problem was that by the time the spinoff came out, I was already kind of aging out of cartoons.Β  So any cartoons from my childhood I enjoyed but anything that came after, I did not like.Β  I can watch Rugrats or Rocco's Modern Life or Doug or any 90s Nicktoon today and still enjoy it though, but I guess there's a lot of nostalgia tied up in there.

I'm not sure if you will see this comment.Β  But thank you for your lovely reply

Eh....I don't think one ages out of good cartoons. I own all of the All Grown Up seasons and I didn't watch them until I was older. It's just such a good show. And I'm not sure what you're referring to about the babies going forward in time. There was a Rugrats episode where they flashed to their futures, but it really had nothing to do with the spinoff series, which was fantastic and much more mature, dealing with very relatable puberty age issues. I adore Rugrats because, as you said, there's a lot of nostalgia that goes along with it, and also it was just insanely creative, diving into childhood imaginations. But All Grown Up was something else, something really interesting for adults and kids alike. I highly recommend that you give it a try someday!

I like the way you drew Tommy, he's the best looking of all the characters in your picture, and my most favorite of the Rugrats/All Grown Up Characters.

I don't blame you for refusing to draw Dil and Kimi, I mean I like them but don't do what you're not comfortable doing. I hated the whole male fairy pregnancy thing on Fairly Odd Parents and I refuse to draw pregnant males, even fairies, I draw female faires being pregnant (I've so far only drawn Wanda, I'm yet to get to the other girl Fairies).

Favoriting this.

Someone probably already told you this but the blonde girl in the Burger King Kids Club is Snap. I wonder what happened to those BK Kids Club kids. I was born in 85.

Ugh it's just stupid nonsense. People love to put horrid spins on perfectly innocent classics. Scooby Doo, Rugrats, Puff the Magic Dragon...there's always going to be someone intent on screwing with childhood memories and warping everything into some absurd drugged out mental illness interpretation.

This is an awesome picture and that gameboy makes me nostalgic.

Adding new character's wasn't what screwed up the show, as can be seen in the case of Susie. I love the episodes where Susie and Angelica went at it. Adding new characters who drag down the show (Dill) or for the sake of adding a character (Kimmie) was the problem. This is more of a writing issue than anything else.
1. This is a cartoon of *talking* babies, why isn't Dill talking even if it is more primitive baby talk?
2. Dill could have been a source of karma for Tommy. With the way Tommy kept getting the babies into trouble and then blowing off Chuckie's concerns. Wouldn't if it had been great if Dill became like Tommy and then Tommy has to start seeing things from Chuckie's POV? This would have been a great source of character development for Tommy by having him play Mr. Responsible.

Although, I think by the Rugrats movie the show had its run, and they should have done the time skip.

Love the picture! Nice attention to detail!
Honestly, I kind of liked it when they added Dil, but I think he was probably retarded. I mean, all the other babies, including the ones at the hospital when he was born, can talk, but he can't. As for Kimi... well, yeah. After that, I lost all interest. For me, it wasn't so much the character, though - it was more the changes she brought to the series AND that whole movie. The entire Rugrats in Paris movie seemed to be sending the message that anyone with a single parent couldn't ever be happy, with the whole thing about Chuckie trying to get a mom. I understand why he'd want one, but I always liked the earlier episodes where he realized he didn't need one because he had his dad.
Anyway, I'm ranting, sorry. Still love the picture!

This obvious is the original five, prior to Susie (and especially Hsrold and Savannah [called Samantha in "All Grow'd Up"]). And seriously, if you think Chuck's creepy, Angie seems to have a horse-face complextion, which is odd, because truly, looks are one of the things The Queen of Mean excelled at keeping flawless.

Dil was just annoying to no end and from the moment he went on air, although Tommy was still adventurous, a lot of the shows involved him having to take care of his brother. Also, the poopie jokes were just damn unfunny. Kimmie made Chuckie a lot braver which for me, killed some of his charm.
