How long do you normally take painting something like this? how do you start? I am curious to know if you start with a line art and when color or how?

JenniferHealy In reply to 6nine-eyes9 [2011-03-17 22:21:05 +0000 UTC]

I always tell myself I'm going to pay more attention to the hours I paint. But I never do! It really depends on what I am painting and the complexity. a Normal portrait takes me no longer than a day. IF my schedule allows it. I start with a rough sketch to start with. As far as colors go I sorta of go with the flow. I pick a main then go from there

Oh I see, so it means that you choose your colors based
on one color ^^ that's cool, so you work directly with
the color and not gray scale first? do you use linearts?

I mean do you first make a line art and then paint over it
or you do things first with fat brush and then go to details?

do you use the normal photoshop brushes or are they special
ones?

^^

JenniferHealy In reply to 6nine-eyes9 [2011-03-19 17:42:58 +0000 UTC]

It's hard for me to come up with a set color pallet. I go with the flow and what looks or feels right at the moment. Unless of course it is a commission and I have to use certain set colors. But even then I don't make a pallet before hand. If that makes any sense at all >_<
I sketch out my guideline then put a layer under it to start painting with. As far as brushes go. Lately I like to make my own brushes or tweek them like crazy. But before I used some of the brushes from the imagineFX magazine. Here on DA they have a lot of helpful brushes as well

So it's not recommend it to paint with the
brushes that you currently get on Photoshop?

right? I mean, since I paint with mouse and
was never interested really in brushes for
I new I was literally not going to get better
results for any brush I used I only paint with
the normal brushes found in photoshop

you know, the standart brushes...

So what brushes do you actually suggest say like
to paint the skin, hair and stuff like that?

I recently found one very nice brush of skin texture
here on DA, I was working on a painting but I stopped
it because I was feeling upset wasn't getting the
results I wanted. so I stopped until I get the tablet

but I would like to know particularly from someone
whose new in these of tablet painting what brushes
are very nice and links to download them if possible.

hope it's not a problem

You should paint with whatever you are most comfortable with. It took me a lot of trial and error. This set is pretty nice and I have used them before [link] . This site is actually loaded with good brushes to use. Practice is really the best tool though

but these brushes are of corel right? o.O

I use photoshop CS5

what software do you use?

JenniferHealy In reply to 6nine-eyes9 [2011-04-15 17:32:08 +0000 UTC]

I use CS4 so you should be able to use them. When you learn how to create your own brushes, it will open a new door to fun.
