Beautiful job! I love the details you put into everything. Do you recall how long it took you to do this piece? Please forgive me if I have asked already but are you using pan or tube watercolors? What brand do you prefer? Your work is always inspiring. Thank you for sharing!

Awwww, thank you very much for your kind words! I painted in the evening and the sun was setting fast so it took 1,5 to 2 hours maximum. For my plein air paintings I use a small Winsor & Newton watercolour pan kit and some additional Schmincke gouache tubes. At home I also prefer the Schmincke water colour tubes. You can put a small amount on a porcelain plate, where they can dry and you can use them for ages

May I ask what parts were gouache? I've never used them before. I'll add both brands to my wishlist of things to try. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I appreciate it. (hug)

The yellow stamen on the blossoms are done in gouache and those edges of the leaves where the blue-violet water colour underpaint was too dark and the form of the leaves wasn't nice. The cool thing with gouache is that you can paint translucently or opaque with them. Usually I use them to add light highlights or details to parts of the picture I want to contrast to the background. I'm very glad I could help you! Hugs back

I never knew that you could do that with gouache! I'll try and get them with my next paycheck and experiment more. Thank you so much for the breakdown. I was going back and forth from your picture to see if I can guess the technique. I'm going to find some youtube videos as well.

You are very welcome! There are some really cool videos on flower painting on youtube, I think "wet on wet" or "wet in wet" and "negative painting" are some good search keywords
