I was surprised how wonderful the jet-black works here together with the colour-shaded areas.
The black substance seems to evolve around the headpiece, which looks wonderfully designed aswell.
I wish there would be more you can see of the body, or instead have the other half(left) part of the "black pond" there too. It would balance out a lot and create a "middle", as for now the piece looks kinda incomplete, though that can be a interesting thing too...

To be honest, I was too lazy to think up a body design Yeah, I see what you mean about the sense of it being unfinished and empty; I was just playing around with the idea that the creature is the source of colour or darkness and it is spreading it across the desolate lake. So, you are right in thinking that it's rather empty, since the creature will be the one 'completing' the scene.
