Awww thats so sad... remeinds me why I have a fear of eventing. I like watching jumping but the high levels freak me out and I could never do it. I couldnt put my horse through something like that. He is such a lovely looking horse. I didnt know of him, Im a bit bad with knowing TB's or eventing horses even the ones born here but he does look like such a lovely horse.

Yeah, it's definitely a dangerous sport. The horses love it, though. I've done a bit of low-level eventing and it was a blast, but until I get the 'right' horse I'm sticking with dressage haha.

I did a couple of events when I was like 9 lol on a 12.2hh pony but didnt do a lot of x country as I pulled out if I thought the jumps were to high for her they scared me that they couldnt colapse. I like to watch it though and I have friends that would like to event but until their horses are not so off the track nutty TBs they will stick to dressage as well.

I totally agree. I have absolutely nothing against the sport itself. I've only ever done cross country once over little 2'6" jumps, and it was INSANELY fun, even though I took it really slow. The collapsible jumps are a really good idea, but I can see there being problems if a horse knocks it over, and there's another horse on course. I think less of a penalty should be given for going under the time limit, and more of one for going over the max speed. Part of the excitement of x-c is the speed, but there has to be a limit, right? I mean, what's more important? The speed of the game, or the safety of the participants? The riders know what they're getting into and understand the risks, but the horses don't.
I agree about the dressage, as well. The skills that you learn and use in dressage are the exact same as those used in x-c.

I agree; it's just too dangerous. I would like to compete at Rolex someday, but no way will I until the jumps become safer. For starters I think making them all 'mobile' so that they collapse upon impact is a good plan. The courses themselves are generally fairly 'safe'; I mean, Frodo simply misjudged the fence as it really was pretty straightforwards, not difficult. Still, less penalty points could be given for coming in under the time limit, and the dressage score should be 'worth' more. Maybe the fence judges could take away points for what they consider 'unsafe' or 'bad' riding, though that could get pretty subjective.
ANYWAY thanks a bunch for the comment!

I seen one jump where the horse shoulder slammed right into the jump, that might of been the video of The Quiet man.
Even if they did put pins in the jump poles, people could still be hurt sliping and sliding into the grass and mud that they come across.
One guy was at the water jump when his head hit his horses neck causing the rider to fall knock unconsis
for a few seconds... It's sad because as much fun the sport looks putting any horse/rider into such damamging conditions are a risk... I cringe to think of the leg and muscle damage these horses face when they land from a high jump or awkward turn...
and i used to activily jump when I was 15-21yrs of age. I really hope the best for Frodo's owner. RIP FRODO

The Quiet Man fell at the footbridge.
The jump you're talking about, where the horse slammed, could it have been the ducks? I was there when one pair hit a duck so hard the head twisted.
It's awful that the sport is so dangerous.
Rest peacefully, Frodo.

wow Jenny, what a stunning picture.
That's so sad. I couldn't imagine knowing that kind of emotional pain. I hope I never have to.
