I want this to succeed, after all it's in black and white. a spontaneous street scene, caught unawares, or so it seems.

and this is the part that disturbs me. without the observer on the right, the image works well, a classic street action. the motion on her arms is a small bit distracting, or maybe it's the tones of her shirt, but acceptable and I buy the action as real.

but everything changes when I have to confront the man in the doorway, as to me he appears to be catching me watching. and he doesn't appear to approve of my actions.

take him out to the door's edge and I give you high marks, leave him in and it ruins it for me.

it's unfortunate the feet are cut out, but this is the real world and it goes with the image. it's just the way you captured it. if you had a chance to shoot a few more exposures at the time, I might have selected a different one from the series.
