Description
For the 1963 model year, Chevrolet was designing a new Corvette, but the inspiration came from the Stingray Racer concept car, which was designed by Pete Brock, Bill Mitchell, and Larry Shinoda in 1959. A design team led by Zora Arkus-Duntov worked to make this Corvette more radical and even better than the C1. Using the Stingray Concept Car, the Jaguar E-Type, and a Mako Shark as inspiration, the new C2 Corvette made it's debut in 1963. The 1963 models had a split rear-window, but Akrus-Duntov did not like that, nor the fake hood vents, so in 1964, those were removed. This car, the 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 427, used the massive 7.0L V8 that produced 435hp and 460lb-ft of torque. The 427 V8 was introduced in 1966 and went on into 1967, and this was the most powerful Corvette ever produced up to that point.
