Description How to install Blender2PMD: [link]

Please note that this tutorial WILL NOT:
*Teach you Blender
*Make finished, ready to dance, fully boned models

If you can't do any of this yourself, I strongly suggest just waiting until someone else does it for you. There are several experienced modelers and converters uploading them every day.

PART TWO: [link]

All of these are completely free and are what I personally use!:

For texture edits maybe, but NOT model converting. >.>

Paint Tool Sai is just an art program, it doesn't do models...

Try updating your drivers and stuff so that PMDe will work. Maybe use an older version of it, too (like not the supporting PMX one). I know the Limited English version is relatively light weight.

Google "Microsoft visual c++ update" and "Microsoft .NET framework" to get those up to date, making sure you have 2008 and 2010 installed separately, too.

They don't include everything in the newest update and some programs are picky about them. I don't remember if I needed the .NET packs for PMDe or one of my modeling programs, but it's still good to have everything updated anyway.

I have all of that already programmed, it's just that my computer's graphics card can't support it.

Holy crap, is it just Blender doing that? Maybe try reinstalling it?
Sounds a lot like when my old computer decided to nuke itself tho, so you might want to get that checked out...

Is this possible to do it the opposite way? Like MMD ---> OBJ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to PercyRosalina [2013-05-07 04:22:15 +0000 UTC]

If Blender plays nice and imports the model fine, then yes!
It's been 50/50 for me lately, tho removing the physics seems to make it work better.

I'm not sure... I think you have to use 3DS Maxx for that, unless it's like a texture file or something.
I've only run into those once or twice, so I don't really remember.

I have a question. Can you export MMD models as an OBJ? I have a hair I would like to use in a different 3d program.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to TaishoBee [2013-04-12 22:26:50 +0000 UTC]

Yep yep!
Just do the steps in reverse, importing .pmd's and exporting as .obj's.
They *should* keep their bones like that as well. It's just obj to pmd that strips them.

TaishoBee In reply to JerisEnigma [2013-04-13 02:12:21 +0000 UTC]

Okay, great. I just opened PMDEditor for the first time. Can you tell me how to save only the hair?

If that tutorial isn't very good (I just grabbed the first one I saw), just search for tutorials on deleting or removing layers either here or on Youtube.

JerisEnigma In reply to HiddenHunters [2013-03-27 04:57:34 +0000 UTC]

All of those are texture files except sph.
Type their names in the box like it shows at the bottom of the tutorial.

The sph goes in the box under that, but don't bother with it until you're sure you have the correct texture for that layer already.

Some sph/spa are finicky with some textures and will throw up an error message. It's just red text above those boxes, but if you ignore it and save the model, it will remove the sph/spa from that layer the next time you open it.

Whenever I import my model in PMX editor all the textures are in the wrong places. Here is the link for more information:

JerisEnigma In reply to ponpongerardway [2013-02-18 04:43:04 +0000 UTC]

Do they look right in Blender?
Try opening the textures in an image editor and flipping them upside down. I've had a few that were 'Y-coordinated' or whatever some guy called it, but that fixed them perfectly.

If that doesn't help, they may have gotten screwed up during the original rip/conversion, so I can't help you there. They'd have to be re-ripped or re-uved. Obviously the latter is easier, but I'm still a little sucky at uvs, too.

This is probably a stupid question but now that I have everything how do I put it in mmd? I went to that one website and downloaded Pikachu, then I opened it in Blender and then PMD and did some editing but how do I put it in mmd. It is invisible but it shows that it is there :S

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to Yenkira [2013-02-13 18:43:29 +0000 UTC]

Open it in PMDe and check your textures/colors, etc.
I really shouldn't have glazed over that part! e_e;
I think I'll make a Part 3 tonight... So thanks for the question! I hadn't noticed, derpderp. :$

Go to the layers tab and make your color boxes light grey-black-dark grey (top to bottom). Make the numbers to the far right of those 0.999-10-1 for best results.

Look at the bottom of that tab and make sure the textures are written there correctly. Be sure the names are't too long (PMDe will erase/ignore them if they are), that the textures are in the same folder as the model and if you shortened the names be sure the files and the name in this tab match *exactly*.

Then SAVE of course! If it still doesn't look right, or has ugly grey shadows, go back to that tab and change the toon to toon 0 (or whichever one looks best, but 0 usually works for me).

do you know how to change the size of the model in blender?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to naga07 [2013-01-23 23:35:39 +0000 UTC]

You could try selecting everything (hit A), then scaling it up (hit S).
Once it's exported though, it's much easier to just use the PMDSizeChanger. In Blender it's difficult to tell the actual size I think.

Question: where do you export the plugins/scripts? Which file?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to Hebigami-Okami-77 [2013-01-23 23:30:58 +0000 UTC]

Do you mean install? In your Blender folders (1 under User and 1 under Program Files usually) there should be some folders named scripts, addons and plugins. I'm not 100% which one these go in, so I always copy-paste them into ALL of them and it works. Restart Blender and/or you computer and when you start it up again the new scripts will be under File->Import/Export->PMD file for MMD

Not to be a pain, but instead of possibly screwing something up by downloading, could you convert a .dae file to a .pmd file for me?

JerisEnigma In reply to allyally1620 [2012-12-31 03:53:48 +0000 UTC]

Not a problem~ Upload it somewhere and throw me a link. After I get it, it'll take like 10 min to convert it and send it back.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to naga07 [2013-01-21 18:49:33 +0000 UTC]

Welp, I tried but kept getting errors importing it. :/
I don't have 3DSMaxx anymore (which works *much* better with these) and the Blender importers for it are pretty hit or miss.
You could try asking ~Valforwing to do it. They're super nice and do a TON more converting than me with those file types.

So this would also work for models on DA?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to AruoraOkami [2012-12-18 01:46:16 +0000 UTC]

Most models on DA are already set up for MMD, so you only have to unzip/unrar them.
It WILL work for the ones that aren't in most cases, but I can't vouch for all of them.

Anything that's already obj, dae or 3ds will definitely work.
Ones for XNALara for example, WILL work with this, but you have to export them from XNALara to obj before starting the tutorial.

XNALara? I've heard of it,what is it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to AruoraOkami [2012-12-18 22:33:46 +0000 UTC]

It's a free 3D posing program, originally made specifically for Lara Croft's PS3? model, but people import things from pretty much every high quality game/poser they can find. You open models, backgrounds and accessories and can make what look like official scenes from games if they're done well.

Random examples here on DA: [link] [link] [link] [link]

The models can be exported as obj's, so pretty much anything can be brought in from games or taken out for MMD. Two warning/tips though... Since they're the highest quality models people can get their hands on, 1-They easily to have too many vertices and break in PMDe and 2-People make extremely NSFW models/scenes with them. Be careful searching XNALara stuff because of the super common nudity/erotic scenes and don't get your heart set on one model that may not end up usable.

It's SUPER easy to use and models for it are *everywhere*. I have a folder of like 30 sitting on my desktop all converted and ready to rig for MMD, if I ever stop being so damn lazy. Seriously, it's a free, tiny program that you can find models for all over the place, but no one likes rigging so it hardly gets used by anyone. e__e;

AruoraOkami In reply to JerisEnigma [2012-12-19 00:03:32 +0000 UTC]

HA! I have the two middle links games lol. Hmm XNALara meh I guess I'll keep that idea around but if its like another program call 3D custom girl, eww. Same I'm a bit lazy I have all these half done drawings sittin around with my stories. :/

JerisEnigma In reply to AruoraOkami [2012-12-19 00:14:32 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha, nooo... nothing like 3DCG! It's more like... MMD with no animation.
It's just a neat program to nab some nicer models if you're into less cutesy/deformed ones.
I wouldn't bother with it if you don't think you'd use it much. Nice to have, but one MORE modeling program to sit on your computer? I've gotten to the point where I uninstall more things than I use.

AruoraOkami In reply to JerisEnigma [2012-12-19 00:33:39 +0000 UTC]

A person told me that 3DCG is pretty good for editing and creating models for MMD I WAS a tad interested till a saw some eh...That program can nasty and dem peoples minds when they do so,but thats just life ya know.
