Description Comic Book Trade Paperback Art, DC Comics, TEEN TITANS. Pencil, Ink, Brush, Pen, Opaque gouache. This is the full B/W art of the colored version posted elsewhere in this Gallery.

* THE LITTLE DETAILS -
I depicted Superman's DNA helix half as illuminated, to convey that he obviously possesses a genetic structure FAR BEYOND THOSE OF MORTAL MEN! lol
The morphing together of his face with Lex Luthor's represents the combined DNA of these two adversaries as the genetic make-up of the new Superboy.
Additionally, Superman is heroically lit from above, while villainous Luthor is underlit.
The blocky boxes atop the page are inspired by the little markers used on DNA testing sheets.
And Changeling appears here in velociraptor form to conjure the image of the genetically constructed dinosaurs of JURASSIC PARK. Gar is such a wise-guy!
I like to work in a lot of subtle imagery, clues, and inside jokes whenever I get a chance in my illustrations. Makes it more fun for me, and for those observant ones who enjoy staring at drawings for long periods. Haha!

Awesome! Great expressions, and I love the way you have Lex's face morphing into Superman's.

everything is excellent my only real critique is that the merger of supes and luthor is just not what it needs to be
theres gotta be a way to depict a must smoother blending of one into the other even with the new superboybetween the faces (cliche or classic i know but still)
with this the element of the merging blend between luthor and kryptonian house of el dna is a key focus area-- the dna itself could be shown as being blended as well in the background like tying together

Uhh... why is robin not wearing shoes? Sorry, couldn't resist, and I was really curious...

Robin wears footwear patterned after Japanese tabi, which is quite prevalent and stylish among many martial arts gear, and disciplines.

The fact that you put this much thought into one cover is amazing, let alone the fact that the composition and lineart are awesome as well!

Thank you, Stargirl.

I tend to put lots of thought into most of what I do. Otherwise, I might get bored, and the work might suffer.

Heh, cool. Is this the real art from the cover or a reproduction?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jerome-K-Moore In reply to Darth-Chaltab [2010-05-24 21:13:22 +0000 UTC]

Haha! That question can be answered lots of ways. Nothing online is real to begin with. And art that is printed is also a reproduction. However, I believe your question is directed at whether or not I have represented myself and my work honestly here, which I have. So, yes, to be clear, this is a virtual reproduction of the original art I was paid by DC Comics to create, and which they printed on the back cover of one of their Teen Titans trade paperbacks.

Heh, I didn't mean to imply I'd thought it was stolen. I was wondering if you'd actually done this for DC Comics or just as practice, that's all. Thanks for answering.

Oh no, I didn't think that of you at all. I just thought perhaps you didn't read the description, or that you wondered if, as you suggested, I had simply copied someone's established work as an exercise. If I had, I would've honestly indicated that. Proper credit is a good thing.

Wow, I love all the extra things you put into the cover, it gives me a great idea about the story. The DNA and how you made the faces fuse together were great ideas to have in there. The lighting on their faces is a great idea, as well, I think it's amazing how so many subtle things can really effect the mood of the image!
