Ever have that friend who tells you to get off the couch and go do something with your life?
That’s stefan and luna.
Stefan, after finding out he was royalty, basically only came to mewni so he could thrive in being a prince and all it’s luxury, he didn’t count on doing important tasks or being responsible.
Luna, as queen is one of the most important things to her ever, and wants to be one of the greatest queens ever, is the polar opposite of that. Stefan is basically an illegitimate bum of a heir to her, and his lack of taking his role seriously bothers her.
She only interacts with him so much because she kinda has to, since he’ll be an ally. But if he remains how he is, well, he’ll be a very useless ally if the kingdom has any more issues. So in turn, she partially has to get him to do what he’s supposed to do.
Though, stefan’s not wrong….luna can be too uptight and needs to have fun sometimes.
Stefan’s also a huge coward, and kinda selfish and vain at times, so he gets on luna’s nerves most of the time.

It is as that phrase says that opposites attract but not always lovingly. It may be by partnerships too since Stefan is unresponsive and vain and Luna has a sense of responsibility and a very admirable maturity for her age. Maybe Stefan is that idiot friend that she's just going to have a good time together with good laughs and adventures. Or not.
