Description 2016 Rolex Kentucky 3DE : EXTENDED June 10th (am)

------------
Please don't rain, please don't rain, please don't rain, Brody thought to himself as he watched Melissa finish her trip around the show jumping ring. The clouds were rolling in and the sky was dark and awfully menacing. He was going to wear his team Canada show jacket today and he didn't want it to get wet and muddy on it's first trip out. "Oh Brody" Melissa had said to him, when he first told her his fears, "You're such a princess. That's why we have a washing machine and that's why dry clearners exist! We'll wash it!". Brody smirked a little at the thought of their prior conversation but he really was a princess. He didn't mind getting wet and dirty on a cross-country course or even on any regular day. But if he was wearing his fancy jacket he didn't want to get sloppy. Brody walked over to congratulate Melissa on her lovely round. "Great job, Mel!" He exclaimed, wiping slobber from Locket's muzzle with a towel, "You guys looked great, I've never seen Locket so playful!" Melissa smiled, "Thanks. No rain yet eh?" She teased looking up at the sky, "You're still a few away, I'm not sure it'll hold up until then". Brody frowned - he knew she was right. "I have to go get Feather warmed up, meet me in the ring once you've got Locket settled" He called to Melissa as he made his way to where Alisha - Feather's groom - was keeping Feather.

Brody pulled himself onto the big thoroughbred mare. She was still fully of energy. She loved the last two days of an eventing competition - she loved speed and proving her bravery. Brody loved that about her and he'd never had such a bold horse. Feather would jump anything and everything you set out in front of her until her legs fell off. She was a born competitor and took her job very seriously. Brody also speculated that Feather was excited because she could sense the dreary, rainy weather that was looming above them. This mare also loved the rain, the mud, the water - anything messy! In a way, Brody thought the rain might actually enhance her performance today. But that didn't mean he was hoping for it. He pressed Feather into a loping canter and they plodded around the warm-up ring, practicing some lead changes and some circles to get Feather listening carefully to his aids. She was so sensitive anyways, barely a press with Brody's leg and she happily wrapped herself around it. They'd developed such a strong partnership that Feather would listen to almost anything Brody asked of her - as long as he asked politely and gently. Just as he started popping her over a few fences he felt a great wind whip through the air and a splatter of raindrops speckled his face. Feather nickered with excitement as the showers began and Brody sighed. He turned Feather to head towards the in gate just as the floodgates opened from above. "Guess my jacket is going to need to be washed" he mumbled to himself as he felt Feather kick mud up as she bucked and bobbed when he asked her to canter to the first fence.

I really wish I could have done some extras but time just wasn't on my side this time. Maybe for Badminton I'll get my act together
