Description I am currently working on a Spirit (ouija) board design. I have wood cut already, and later today I will be staining it ebony. The boards are 14"x20" ebony stained pine, and I will be silkscreening the spirit board design onto the stained wood with a creamy white ink. After silkscreening, I will coat the piece with polyurethane for a nice lacquered finish. I also have 7" pieces of wood that I will be staining ebony also, and silkscreening a moon design on it for the planchette. In the upper half of the circle will be a 2.5" hole cut to read the letters. On the base of the wood planchette I will put those soft pads so it can glide on the spirit board easily and without scratching.

I would very much like feedback on this design, because I will be silkscreening it hopefully by Wednesday. I am turning it in to an art show, and would like it to be the best design it can be. Please, any and all well thought criticism would be wonderful.

The final boards and planchettes should be in my Etsy shop soon.

**Update** Fortunately pointed out my missing G before I screen printed! Last night I finished staining all four boards I have so far, and today I am screen printing. This is the first board. I added some glow in the dark paint to the ink to hopefully give it a touch of glow.

Aren't spirit boards dangerous?

About as dangerous as a piece of pinewood can get. Sorry, just don't believe in them. I made it from wood at the lumber store, nothing magical about that. Used stain, silkscreen ink, and finish. Again, nothing otherworldly about that. It's just the alphabet and numbers on a board, if that's supposed to make something dangerous every elementary school chalkboard in the world would be spooky.
The actual Ouija boards are made by the same company and factory as Clue and Monopoly. It's just plastic and paper on cardboard.
I just see them as potential works of art. The imagery is eye catching and evokes ideas and superstition.

So those stories of angered spirits coming through the boards and killing people are hoaxes?

If it were real, do you think Parker Brothers and Milton Bradley would be allowed to sell them in stores? If it were real, wouldnt they be studying these things in science laboratories?

I like the overall design, the font for the letters and responses like "hello". It's pretty neat looking, and darn classy. The art elements/flourishes in the corners are also really nice. I pointed out the "G", but that's the only flaw I see in it readily. Sorry I didn't see this post sooner. If that was an error, i hope I mentioned it in time.

Just updated the image with the first photo of the final work. Thanks again for pointing out my near fatal error!

Is there a reason there's no 'G'?

FUC..... Thank you for pointing that out! Glad someone had the eyes for that. I've been showing it off all week and nobody saw that except you. I was going to start screen printing tomorrow.

Just made a new screen today. Tonight I'm going to second coat the boards with stain, then go over the screen and make sure it's all perfect. The weekend I'm off, so I'll spend that making the boards. It's all downhill from here. Hope next week I can make the planchettes and get the board with planchettes in the Etsy shop. I heard from a few people already who are interested in them.
