Mojo Motivation (Mo Chen and Jessi Bowen) Part 10

After we helped the other get to her feet, our eyes met, and we giggled again.

“May I give you a victory hug, sweetie?”

After this? You better hug me," Mo Mo retorted quickly.

For me, it was a huge deal that Mo allowed me to hug her. I had always sensed that Mo was an introvert, and that wasn’t due to social awkwardness; the Chinese woman was chill and introspective, meaning that she’d observe a person for a while before she could trust them. In our high-octane fueled world of fighting, this was a prudent way to be, since appearances could be deceiving and not everyone was a decent soul as they climbed their way to the top.

My heart beats slowed down as I smiled against her warm cheek, giving her one of my bestest Mama Bear hugs, hoping that she'd feel all my respect and admiration transmit from my heart to hers. I simply couldn’t stop beaming out of pride for her. At first, I felt her initial resistance, most likely out of awkwardness of not feeling such an obvious display of camaraderie after she had left her life in China and her old teammates. But after a moment, Mo Mo leaned into me and hugged me back.

Comfortable and quiet moments of reflection passed between us as we embraced. And now, that the strange and tumultous human game was over, little Shadow felt it was safe to reassert his place as a greedy baby. Plaintively meowing for attention, he walked around us, rubbing himself against our ankles.

We gave each other one more tight squeeze before releasing our friendly embrace.

I flashed a wide, mischievous grin at the Chinese woman. “Well, Mo Mo, seems as if you got your mojo back! And you can tell everyone that Hulk Jessi is housebroken! RAAAWWRRR!!!” I raised my arms and kept them stiff and shortened by my sides like a T-rex and then lifted my feet in Godzilla-like stomps.

At first, the reserved Chinese grappler raised an eyebrow at my silliness, but then she couldn't help but laugh.

Encouraged by her mirthful outburst, I gave another roar! “RAAAWWRRR!!!” Okay, okay, you can’t tell me that you weren’t a little worried about your furniture at first.”

Then, I lowered my arms, reverting back to human Jess.

Mo shrugged before gently scooping up Shadow and cuddling him. We both could tell he was in heaven as his little, purring motor started. Shadow's huge golden eyes watched my face intently with slow blinks.

Instinctively, my hand reached out to pet his perfectly soft head as his fur mama began to speak.

“Yeah, because I do no want to get evicted if they think I am fighting and breaking things. This is a nice place. I was on waiting list for a year. So, no more fighting on my rug. Next time, I meet you at the gym, hokay? I promise.“

“Mo Mo, I want to make it clear that I believe in you. You get why I came here right?"

Her glance fell to the floor, and she nodded sheepishly.

"You're spending too much time in your own head. Playing out every move possible to reverse that ending in the DeVille match. I was hoping to coax you out of here. Stop overthinking. Please stop beating yourself up, Sichuan Pepper."

The reflective Chinese woman continue to listen in silence and gave another little nod, showing that my words were hitting their mark.

Laying my hand gently on her shoulder, I gave a little nod of affirmation and offered a soft smile of genuine admiration.

"That’s why I ambushed you. I knew your instincts and knowledge would take over. Mo Fei, you have the beauty, agility, strength, and knowledge to propel you to super stardom. You’re the complete package. You’re one of the best wrestlers I’ve tangled with, and I’m not saying that out of gummi bear gooeyness.”

My smile deepened as I continued. I knew the light and sincerity had already reached my eyes for some time.

By now, Mo Mo's eyes had looked up to meet my gaze. Seeing my face as an open book, she flushed from seeing I meant every word I said.

“But you know what is something new I learned about you today? You fight with passion. You fight with your heart. That’s something that can’t be taught or passed down. Please don’t lose that fire, sweetie. Believe in yourself.”

“Definitely easier when you know someone else believes in you, too, “ she admitted, giving a shy smile. Then, she closed her eyes for a moment and sighed, doing her best to crystallize this emotion in her memory forever.

Knowing how Mo Fei kept a poker face during her fights and appearances, my heart glowed to see Mo Mo opening up and trusting me to display this feeling in front of me. My eyes were dangerously close to tearing up, and I blinked them away before she caught me.

I let out a big breezy sigh to cover up the waterworks that had threatened me a second ago. “Thank you for coming to Jessi Bowen’s TED talk.” Then, I lifted my arm and delicately sniffed my armpit. Making an annoyed face with rolling eyes, I insisted, “And for the record, I smell just fine!”

As Mo smirked at me, I gave her a lopsided, tight-lipped grin and sighed.

“Let’s grab some lunch before I get hangry, girl,” I said hastily, looking to change the subject and moved toward the apartment door to grab my things.

"I do not need motivation for that!" Mo Mo replied, darting off to her bedroom to get ready for our lunch outing.
