Bambi and I had finished up our sparring session and decided to go looking for Daisy as she hadn't shown up yet. I had thought it a bit strange as Daize usually didn't take too long to change in the locker rooms, though I did know her beloved "stompy" boots had a lot of buckles and took some time to put on. However, all the adrenaline from a good sparring session with Bambi had quelled any thoughts of my usual Mama Bear paranoia.

After finishing up, I told my high-spirited sparring partner that we should look for Daisy. When we didn't catch the lithe, blonde fighter along our way, we decided to venture into the locker rooms. Once there, we turned the corner, approaching the shower area...and then the bottom of my world dropped away.

"...Kitten?"

My voice came out so quavery and weak, diminished by shock, pain, and disbelief. My heart had seemed to stop, and everything seemed frozen in time because I found my girl, unconscious, bloodied, and bruised on the ceramic tiles. Squatting down, my trembling fingers touched her neck to check her pulse in feverish haste.

Signs of life.

And then, the blood flowed back into my heart.

She was alive, her pulse strong and steady like one would expect of someone like Daisy Pierce's fierce and determined nature.

I barely choked back the angry, stinging tears in my voice. "Bambi, call Jerle and tell him Daisy's been hurt! I felt a good pulse though! Please stay with her!! I need to find out if the f**cker who did this to her is still on our premises."

I could say no more after that because I had to hold myself so tightly bound together; in that moment, if Bambi had brushed my shoulder gently in comfort, my soul would have shattered apart like a crystal vase dropped upon that ceramic floor.

Bambi's eyes had gone wide, and she immediately grabbed her cell, following my instructions. Honestly, I had no idea what she said to our boss because my body was entering the twilight of severe fight mode - that feeling of splintering cold that pierced my heart in a million pieces while lava seemed to boil in my head and in my veins.

Only someone who was a coward would ambush Daisy like this, knowing wisely she'd beat their ass in a fair fight. Whoever they were, they were dead to me, now and irrevocably, because they hurt my friend.
