Description Another project completed for the Advanced Diploma of Gold & SIlversmithing. This was also published on my old account - everlasting-soul.

Considering I got a DD on this one I thought I should tell you more about the piece

It's all hand cut, constructed from brass & nickel silver riveted together. There is also a small piece of clear perspex behind the front saw pierced section. (Why you may ask??? It was part of the project outlines, we could have used a coloured piece but I didn't like the colours )

The design is derived from my old business logo which created using typography, you can see the whole logo in the center square at the back. T & C (which stood for treasure and cherish - my old business name) were the letters/symbols used to create the logo

So now that I've chosen Jessica Helen as my new trading name (and that will be permanent!!) perhaps another Business Card Holder is order?

Also with all the park bench/seat comments perhaps I should take that on as a future challenge or even for my graduate exhibtion in novemeber

Thanks everyone for your kind words and support!

When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a very cool, stylized bench. It looked quite uncomfortable though. It's much better as a business card holder. Still very cool.

A very pretty design! Can I ask, were the details hand pierced?

My only real little issue with it is that the brass (is it brass?) feels like it should of perhaps been darker. I would have loved to have seen this with a black oxidised metal as well!

Either way, great work! And I particularly love the brushed metal effect you have going on on the silver Congrats on the DD!

JessicaHelen In reply to SweetIllustrations [2011-01-18 02:49:45 +0000 UTC]

They certainly were and yes it is brass
I would have loved to add more to it perhaps oxidise or create a patina but as it was a technical project I wasn't allowed to at the time... I quite like the brushed effect I tend to mix finishes in my work to provide contrast however with this one I brushed it all

SweetIllustrations In reply to JessicaHelen [2011-01-18 15:40:03 +0000 UTC]

Ah, ok then I do a course in silversmithing, goldsmithing and jewellery too, nearly finished my final year (eep!) and we never had any sort of technical projects as requirements as such ... they're a bit more like, here's a theme (usually animals!) make something pretty! I kinda wish it was a bit more like yours, I feel like I would have enjoyed that a bit more

But yes! A really pretty piece! I know usually courses don't allow for much freedom to do your own thing but you could always make it again with the effects you really wanted
