Description Oh yes, I have not abandoned this project. Merely let it simmer in the back of my mind while I thought on the others I wished to include in it. And so...... we come to Silvestris.

With her words are short, hard to phrase in a coherant manner. She has a gift that takes the breath away, leaves you speechless and struggling to somehow find the words to define what her art brings out in you.

Not just paintings, but emotion, words, her characters are vivid, her world is so real...

And to speak to the woman is to uncover complexity itself. Never ending paradox, intelligence paired with a quick wit. A sense of humor that flashes nearly as brightly as her art. Truly... one of the lights in the world.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is colored pencils. And trust me.... the scanner completely mutilated it.
ah this piece was uploaded... hmm... I can't remember how long ago now *laughs* 2003? 2004? Anyway a loooong time ago before I learned how to use a scanner fairly decently. But thank you for the advice!
This is beautiful!!!! One question - what sort of paper do you use? I know you do your pics in coloured pencils, but they almost look like pastels - and I'm trying to work out how that happens, and one thing that occurred to me is the weight of the paper ...
You really have a stunning gallery - I wouold comment on every pic, but really I should do at least *some* work today
JessicaMDouglas In reply to elegaer [2004-12-29 09:24:38 +0000 UTC]
oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I just barely started answering comments again, and this one was burried waaaaaaay down here. Anyway, I usually use colored cardstock. If you go to a scrapbooking, or crafts, store you can get it in individual sheets all different colors. It also comes in different weights (I like it when it's right around 90lb.), and that's part of the effect... but more than anything it's what colors you use *with* your pencils.
Take a bit to look at the different skin tones on different papers. Prismacolors are translucent, so whatever color your base paper is, it's going to effect your overall tones. Don't get too textured a paper, because then you have to use ten times the amount of pencil for the same space, your details get blurred and you can't do quite as much subtle shading.
Hope that helps a little. Ummm, if you have any other questions, noting me would probably be better than comments. Since comments tend to get burried.
