Background
During Truman's first term Utah is re-admitted into the Union. On August 4, 1955 Alberta (a former Canadian Province that has high amounts of American settlers) was the first Canadian Province to be admitted to the Union.

Election
The race was closer than in 1952 , as Truman faced William Averell Harriman, governor of New York. Ultimately, Truman wins re-election due in part to Irving Morrell being his Vice President.

Aftermath
During Truman's second term the Nicaragua Canal was completed on September 15, 1959. On November 1st of that year elections were held in Mexico in which the Liberal Reconstruction Party was elected. However while Truman said the elections were "open and free" accusations of vote rigging and corruption from the opposition Mexican Socialists emerged. After Truman's term ended in 1961 Morrell retired from public life and wrote three memoirs: Great War, American Empire, Settling Accounts all published in 1967. He gave Michael Pound's eulogy in 1965 to which Morrell's daughter: Mildred Morrell-Quigley writes "My father’s eulogy was for Michael Pound, yet also could have been for himself." In 1970, Morrell passed away. His legacy lives on in Kansas as each generation has a strong sense of tradition they aspire to be. A Barrel (Tank) called Morrell Mark VI and the Irving Morrell College of Armored Warfare located in Topeka, Kansas are both named in honor of Morrell. And Morrell is the only Vice President who didn't become President to have a monument on the National Mall.
