The beautiful blue gaze of this little guy may distract me from the objectivity required for a critique, but I'll try to anyways. The cuteness of the subject alone does not make a photography stand out: this one does for other reasons too.
The chosen depth of field emphasizes the main subject, and the composition is harmonious and well balanced. It leads the attention of the viewer to the eyes and expression of the kitten. I just regret the white area in the background, which is a little bit too much distractive (especially the white).
The light conditions lack punch and brightness, but they have been well managed and even give the photo a sad atmosphere that suits the look of the cat quite well.
The blurred Lemon (well, I guess it's Lemon ^^) in the backgrounds finally adds a heartwarming impression to the whole shot.

Oh I didn't even notice the other cat in the background until I read your author comments, but it does add more heart-warming feelings to the picture.
I'm favoriting this one because it looks almost exactly like one of my cats when she was a kitten, and it's really endearing to see another kitten like her.
