Is it just a superstition is this guy dead? And if so are these two harmless constructs malevolent? If so what do they hope to gain? Well drawn.

Don't worry, this guy's not dead. He just doesn't get much sunlight.

Very heavy. Excellent atmosphere. I hear you about the odd jobs and shift work man. I frequently have a 1 hour commute home around midnight from work, it sucks. Riding the bus or train and walking after a long day is the worst. Then there is the atmosphere. Traveling at night, so alone. We have all felt the way he feels in this scene before.

another beautiful drawing of yours, combined with an eloquent and eerie story.
i like how stressed the young man looks: his face expression is not just tired, but also anxious, because, as the story states, when you see both of those (otherwise harmless) creatures together, its a clear sign that some truly dangerous nocturnal predators will arrive soon...
and the night arrives quickly...
the background is nice and gloomy as one would expect from such a wasteland, the two strange creatures/constructions are nicely drawn, and despite their harmless/non-threatening design, the corrosion shown in their outline, and the fact that they seem to be more than what they appear makes them a bit scarier than before...
and if you combine that elusive creepiness of those objects with the knowledge of what's to come through the darkness, then you start to understand the young forager's feeling of dread and anxiety.
speaking of the forager, his outfit is nicely drawn as well, while despite the fact that he has a nice hoodie, sturby boots and good trousers, they all depict some form of tear+wear in them, due to time, and due to constant/frequent use.
he explores the wastelands often, after all.
what can i say?
its another beautiful and creepy drawing of yours, combined with a cool story.
excellent work as always, keep it up!

This comment's just wonderful. I'm still not where I'd like to be but I feel I'm getting closer.
I've generally avoided making people the main focus in Dreamscapes as realistic figures, faces and expressions have always been challenging unless I have references. Getting them right is essential in a series focused less on detailed world building than conveying atmosphere and mood.
I'm not very stressed these days, but years of long commutes and shift work brought their share of fatigue and anxiety along with lots of inspiration. Later years of drifting while living off odd jobs and commissions were even more inspiring and showed me the true worth of practical clothes! If this character's appearance works I'll put it down to experience.
The rest here's pure fantasy but your comment shows it works. As all good film directors know, unseen or imagined horrors can work better than those shown on screen!
