The Type 1191 is a class of large, highly-sophisticated nuclear-powered attack submarines developed by Yongsheng Heavy Machinery Industries. Using state-of-the-art technology, the submarine was designed to combat large groups of enemy warships and submarines.

To reduce broadband noise, the submarine is designed with a compact and integrated hydrodynamically efficient hull, which is constructed from low-magnetic materials. The submarine uses pump-jet propulsion, resulting in a low sonar signature. Equipped with a spherical sonar, the Type 1191's advanced sonar system consists of a spherical bow array, flank arrays and a towed array. Thanks to a high degree of automation, the submarine has a crew of 84.

The Type 1191 is armed with sixty-four vertically-launched anti-ship missiles, which are launched from sixteen vertical missile launchers. Each launcher carries four missiles. The submarine is fitted with four 533mm torpedo tubes, with each capable of launching an anti-ship missile.

The first Type 1191 was launched in early 2013 and commissioned on July 19, 2015.
